Pathalogical Narcassism (Control freak)and the damage it causes to family members

Reading through the complete thread again, I wouldn't be surprised if there was a genuine personality disorder at the root of some of these cases. Help for people affected by this sort of thing exists. It takes time, often a long time but there are therapies for these and some of them have a real success rate. There are also therapies designed for entire families to address these kinds of issues and ways to approach it in a safe and healthy way rather than a flat out argument with hostility.

I feel for the people who feel trapped in their situation, some of the situations described sound horrible. There are many things in life worth clinging to but not if it results in you having a breakdown yourself. If it's wearing you down, it is possible it is wearing your spouse/parent(s) or children down, too. Be wary of the grind it can put on people or the way it might suddenly force them to do something very drastic or irreversible.

If anyone reading this has experience of this type of abuse I'd really appreciate them getting in touch. Struggling to cope at the minute.
keep talking on here and get some advice ...more than welcome to message me direct if you wish as i have been going through this for years now . Only when i discovered that a personality disorder (A DISORDER OF SOMEONES PERSONALITY) can do so much damage to the people on the recieveing end that researching this disorder has brought me some form of releif and some understanding of the defence mechanism's ,that we sufferer's ,need to adopt to prevent their disorder from ruining our lifes (As i said please message me if you fancy a chat if you want)

I have met people with personality disorders that became so problematic their families literally abandoned them and ceased all contact forever.

There is really only one option with a narcissist who is having a negative impact on your life, and that is to completely block them from your life. Afterwards you will need to go through a period of recovery, which will take time and the support of friends and possibly a therapist.
