Pedigree AA Bull Registration

Bought a run of the mill AA bull about a year ago privately from a breeder.

Only to be used on dairy cows, but the understanding was that the bull would need to be pedigree registered so that calves would be eligible for the Angus premium schemes.

Having checked the breed society website he is listed, but comes up as “Incomplete registration”. Could this be down to him not being DNA tested?

Will his calves be eligible for the schemes, or will I need to contact the breeder to rectify this?

Probably no DNA sample received so they were unable to DNA test the bull so his registration is not complete. Contact the breeder, the bull may be eligible for a free test (depends what year he was born) but I am guessing you will have to get a tissue sample to the society yourself. If breeder doesn't want to know or help you contact the society (generally very helpful there)

The main issue is your calves will not be eligible for the bonus if the bull is not DNA tested.

Did you get the pedigree papers for the bull?

Didn't get any papers at the time. It was a young bull that was going to go fat, but he said it was no problem get it registered. Just turned up on the day and picked one out the fat pen.

Vaguely remember him mentioning something about the DNA testing being an issue at the time, it was right at the start of the first lockdown.

Will need to try and get it sorted out then if the calves aren’t elegible for the schemes.

Thanks

Native breed calves in market without a registered sire on the passport are seriously discounted .Stores would be the same
Would get him registered ASAP or change him

'Incomplete registration' is likely to mean that he was 'Intimated' at birth, but the registration was not complated by submission of DNA samples - as said.
The Society are usually very helpful over stuff like this, and the fact that your bull is on their system is helpful too.
Tail hair samples are used as well as ear tag tissue material, as long as there's a follicle to test.

To obtain the premium in the market place, the animal must have a full pedigree backed up by DNA and paperwork to prove it.
DNA tests are about £25 but the AA Sciety are registering FoC for certain years to nail the provenance.

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.
