LOL - we we asked for it and with our accents they gave it to us lol!! we were staying in Devon near Tavistock...

I believe the jam and cream were in separate dishes and you could apply what you like...being aussie it was jam first cream on top...poke your pinky out when drinking the tea...and say yes my lord alot...then pee myself laughing...

I use to work with a guy in the USA from Cornwall...Mark Coad..funny dude...last i heard he had a farm equipment hire business somewhere down there...sorry to jack the thread..

I travel 2700km for work each week...one way...like going from london to warsaw

So its therefore highly plausible that i did indeed hav a devon treat in cornwall!!

Thats like saying you had a sh!t in either your bedroom or bathroom, but you're not sure which because they're next to each other, and you really need to go to the next town to tell the difference.

Local dialect word for split in this area is Tuff
My maternal grandfather was a Baker, he always referred to them as tuffs.
In simple terms a Split is what you would call a soft bread roll.
