Plant on a pond

I hadn’t been to this pond for a while, then bought a water Lilly at a sale for it, went to plant it and found the whole pond covered in 2 or 3” of this.
Does anyone know what it is?
Or how I can get rid of it?
Does some kind of fish eat it by the tonne?

I've seen a lot of clogged up ponds, but never this. Does it get frozen at all?
Is the plant more like a fungus - not leaves and not moss? Picture not quite high definition enough to see.

we get ice on top but not frozen solid

Looks a bit like hydrilla, an invasive Asian water plant... if it is you are in luck; my cousin used grass carp to clear an acre pond. And then sold a load of the carp to some Polish blokes!

I don't know how many you have to have to keep your area down, but he put a dozen in. It took a few years and the fish bred a fair bit.

Possibly Australian swamp stone crop also known as New Zealand pygmy weed, very invasive , very difficult to control. Sadly like so many of these invasive plants will deoxygenate the pond killing all fish, crutacea and insect life

That looks to be the correct identification; a quick search reveals that it can be eaten by carp, but that it's not a favourite for them...

Bloody hell, pack of weevils for 100 sq m is over £400. My pond is over 400 sq m.
Maybe if I got a small pack they would thrive and breed

I would get a digger and pull it to the sides. I don't know what you do after that
