They reckon it’s better/ more responsive if you haven’t put enough bagged n on?
Also iirc it can reduce oil content?
Having said that I may do some on my “better “ bits this time as gave up @ 160n/ha due to larvae & lack of rain?
You need rain to wash it in really. What did you have in mind? Foliar urea to minimise scorch? What damage will you do by running through the crop?
What would reduce the oil content? To me that would be dilution from higher yield, like you get with protein levels in cereals. Peak N, S and K demand is yet to happen in the crop
I was thinking foliar sprayed onto the pods. Mine has had 200kg N / ha and rain after each application .
I see some trials show good response , up to .35 t/ha , but as already said the best results seem to come during poor uptake years .
Mine has ha 200kg N all liquid, I am assuming some of that is still available and it's dry, with forecast rain next week. I think I will leave it where it is. Sclerotinia spray on contract farm Hear rape yesterday, bloody hell it's high. Ultra low seed rate and pigeon damaged too.
I put 50/50 N35 S7/water mix on at 120L/ha to give an extra 21kgN with the 0.5L Proline flowering spray with no ill effects to top up the N on the best bits of the crop.
Earlier I tested a small patch with 100L/ha of straight N35 S7 in full flower again with no visible ill effects. But that only takes me up to 150KgN, I started the season planning 180KgN but yield expectations have reduced considerably since then. I will probably try a bit more on a couple of tramlines to see if I should have pushed the crop harder.
i think where theres been a lack of rainfall, a lot of N is going to be taken up late therefore there wont be much response to additional late foliar N
I would add it to the list of "things we do for marginal gain that add costs and take time"
I did various trials over many years and came to the conclusion that you put enough N on as late as you can and thats it...
