Is that loose or in boxBox store? Can be done for £130/t all in plus boxes. Equally you can also spend £400/t on one. I’ve just put one up at the lower end of that range.
Cheapest per tonne is around the 1200-1500t mark but agronomically I’d go for 2X 6-700t units.
Are loose stores no good ?boxes, but they’re not included in that cost. They’re about £80 each delivered of new but can be picked up second hand for about £30
No, unless you can warm it up and empty the whole thing at the one time. Boxes are the only way to store potatoes, if there is a bad spot, it's in a few boxes. Are loose stores no good ?
Well looking at prices to start up.Cant answer question without having an idea of your tonnage to be stored
So probably 500 ton storeCant answer question without having an idea of your tonnage to be stored
Selling 10 kg bags as have a really good outlet + maybe contracts if we take it up even more.Bulk has its advantages and is suitable for certain markets, what are you aiming for?
Rough budget for 500t composite panel box store
Building and doors £60k
Concrete/groundwork’s £25k
Fridge/plant (new) £30k
Electrics £5k
Boxes (2nd hand) £15k
Marafona varietyWhat varieties? When are you selling? When are you harvesting? What sprout control do you require? Are you concerned about washed skin finish? Impossible to suggest storage without knowing this really. Remember if you store cold you will have to warm them up before grading
So are you saying that I need a box store ?So you are planning a storing Marfona from October until June? I wouldn’t be considering a bulk store, but there are so many better varieties for long term storage than marfona...
DefinitelySo are you saying that I need a box store ?
I know but it’s a big ask but could I have the rough size of the barn and a full breakdown?Yes definitely, I’d go for a box store. You’ll need to cold store them (2.5-3C) to get Marfona to June with any quality. Remember that you need to warm them up to 8C before grading or bagging to avoid bad bruising problems.
You will need a 25-30KW fridge unit. They are available second hand for about £10-£15k but make sure you’re not buying a knackered one to begin with as you’ll have a lot of money tied up in the stock when it’s full. I decided not to include an air mix unit on cost grounds.
Spray foam insulation will save you £5kish on a store that size over composite panel, but if it were me I’d still go for composite.
My guess would be that you’ll be between £120k and £140k for a 500t store including second hand boxes.
