I’m after a 4th service diverter on my 9.5m loadall, any suggestions of how to do it?

Would a retractable extension reel work day in day out?

I'm not sure thats practical on a 9.5m with two stage boom?

If you didnt want it all the time then i think the best and only way would be to use a extension reel but have it with a plug on end so you only plug it in when you want to actually use it. I not sure they even go long enough though? might have to limit the use of extension/boom out?

I’ve thought about an Anderton plug that uncoupled when you boomed out further, only need it up to about 5m,I see JCB use cable drag chain.

I was a mechanic on mobile cranes a long time ago and they all had power going up the booms through retractable reels, the booms on the big ones were 60m long. I dont see why a normal workshop retractable reel wouldn't work so long as it was waterproof, cheap enough that you could replace it every couple of years.

Drag chains are ok but can get expensive and easily caught.

Bit of a crazy idea, but thought I'd put it out there. How abouy a battery and remote comtrol, although you would soon get fed up of having to charge it. Maybe a drill battery you could swap over.
Edit. Or some means that it connects its self up to the vehicle 12v to charge when boom is retracted, youd only need one connection, as you could earth through the boom.

I've always thought some kind of plug in bluetooth device would be ideal for this job. Similar idea to the sparex trailer lights.

Lots of wireless remotes available for winches, could easily use it to switch a relay remotely to power a diverter valve from a battery

Have you got a boom light on the end of the jib? I’d be tempted to go down the route of having the light on working a 12v wireless receiver and 12v electric change over solenoid From the power supply and change the standard halogen yo LED so you can get round the amperage draw on the lamp and run from your third service? So just turning On the light would give you the 12v needed Pretty sure those Chinese wireless sender switches / Bluetooth are like 15-20 on eBay I bought a ruck of the wireless camera sender/receivers for machines a few years ago.

I looked at them but from what I could see they all need a 12v power supply to the boom so it kind of defeats the objective!

One with a battery would be the answer.

I was thinking it would get its power from same battery as the diverter valve, plenty 12v options. Reckon the receiver would be very low drain compared to the solenoid valve.
@Classichay s suggestion of using boom light wiring as source of power sounds like simplest solution.
If 4th service just going to be occasionally used, could just unplug light and connect solenoid or 2 way switch do one or other

Adapt something like
Sealey CRM15 Cable Reel System Retractable 15mtr 2 x 230V Socket | Rapid Online

Put a deutch plug on the end and disconnect it when you're not using it. you'll have to get inside and remove/adapt the locking mechanism mind you.
