Ok so update- the block- pressure test was all good but bores worn so have elected to have this bored and sleeved, just waiting on this being done and will be nice to keep the original block.

Crankshaft- assumed this would be just a case of being ground to take undersize shells but turns out it's cracked so will have to source another. (At this point a short motor would have been a much better decision purely from a ££ point of view!).

Cylinder head has been overhauled, new valves, seats re cut, new springs and surfaced etc so is ready to go again

Injector pump and injectors fully overhauled

Front axle re bushed along with new king pins/ bushes/ thrust washers and hub bearing re done

Replacement gears and F/R selector sourced and wating being fitted.

Various other "while I'm waiting jobs". Ideally wanted to get the engine rebuilt before tackling the gearbox but am in the queue with the engineering shop and not sorted the crank yet so just in the process of getting the box out and getting that sorted.

Lots more work to date than I was ever expecting and I think really with its issues the tractor should have just been broken for parts but... in for a penny/ in for a pound now so will just keep working my way through things.

You should be able to get a crankshaft ok plenty short motors replaced with good crankshaft, still in them

Pulled the gearbox out and apart finding the offending items, 2/6 gear absolutely mutilated, 4/8 sliding coupling with a couple of chipped teeth and a broken F/R selector plus lots of broken off teeth. Ron Greet were really good with the parts which are now all fitted and just waiting on some gaskets before it gets joined to the back end again.

Definitely didn't expect a full strip down job to get the 2nd gear out but not too bad of a job really.

I couldn't see anything untoward in there so assume its down to really rough and abusive driving. It's all back together now and selects everything as it should and turns over nice and smoothly by hand so hopefully that's that issue put to bed now.

Scenes of much excitement in the AJR75 workshop today as the block and new crank have landed. Just waiting on the rebuild kit and can finally start putting the thing back together.... after I've given it a good steam clean to get rid of the swarf.

New liners and back to standard, what brand of rebuild kit are you using
That's the one- took a while to get it there and with a new crank it would have been cheaper to go down the short motor route but it's not original so....

Pretty sure my supplier's getting me a vapormatic kit.

Starting to get there now, fired up all ok... but can't work out on here how to add a short video of it.

Not tried the gearbox yet but not anticipating any issues there.

I have no hydraulics or PTO at the moment but that's something that can be looked at once the front3/4 is back together.
You can’t work out how to put it on here, like a lot more of use I can’t either, your PTO and hydraulics are all driven off the hub in the flywheel and can strip the splines

I'll look into the video bit. The start up bit is always satisfying when it happens. In this case I cranked for a good while and had fuel to all the injectors but no fire. Rightly or wrongly, a small sniff of ether in the inlet manifold gave it the helping hand it needed and away she went.

Yes, that little hub that bolts through the flywheel onto the crank. The shaft then goes directly through the box and locates into the PTO pack to give a direct drive to it. Hub splines are in good nick, in fact both sets were in good order with very little wear. The top cover has an additional spool added- some loose hose connections on that leaked a bit of oil on start up but nothing to speak of.

So, on the assumption that the shaft and gear is driving the pump I'd say there's little if any output from it. Will whip the cover off and have a bit of a looksee, make sure it's being driven as a start. I lazily didn't clean the filters when I had the box out and easy access to them so that will likely be my first job.

Never use ether use brake cleaner it's less volatile, and there are no filters to glean on hyd's and if they worked before you took box off it's an induced fault, what cover are you going to remove to see gear,

Steel mesh filter on the suction line?

The tractor was a non runner so I have no idea if they worked on not beforehand. I was intending lifting the lid and making sure the pump is being driven as a starting point

I would say that judging by the copious amounts of instant gasket in there that someone has been in there for some reason but not sure what for!

That was the preforce ,the newer one did 60.7 should have been better really but the lad doing that one didn’t drag in as far down there seems to be a bigger difference when you’re using them,
