Please can you suggest which older tractor I should consider buying to power my fire wood processor.Something about 55hp,should be O.k. Which make / model is better value for money to do a job, as opposed to being a collector/restorers project. Thankyou

David Brown 995/996, International 584, Zetor 6011. Any of these should do the job and there are probably others like Deutz, SAME or Fiats in that power range.

But in good order, the 3 cyl ford will start in any weather, will be fairly easy on fuel, and parts if needed are cheap, but as frontera farmer said a 4600 would be better.

we must have had the only bad starting 4600 in the entire world then, (well i say we, more my uncle)

wasnt uncommon to see a bucket of oily rags being burned under the sump on a cold morning to persuade it to fire, by this time grandfather had started the 990, buggered off down the field and left him in the yard.

the 4600 Ive got started with 1 turn @ -15, with no heat, dont think I have ever used the thermostart on it, ever. tractor has done about 15k hrs now still goes every day, but does breathe a bit but no worse than it did 10 years ago !

I looked at the usual Ford 4000. Pieces of SH!T all of them, loads of money for a carp tractor. Being a Deutz fan I ended up with a little 6207 for a reasonable price. Loads of spares out there for it so no problems there and way, way better built than a Ford, with the benefit of being air cooled so no water probs and the lovely 912 engine which sips fuel.

mf 135 would do all that, but use a lot less fuel

Of course it would use less fuel, its has 24HP less than the 4600, different size of tractor. Must have been some dogs of fords about at that time for some people to hate them as much.
As for mine, I wouldent be without it, 22 years and over 10000 hrs on one clutch, and a few front king pins, had a loader on for 14 years, and done all the jobs my 7610 has done, albeit a bit slower.
As for the op, I would imagine all the dogs have gone for export by now, choose carefully and you can get a good one.
