There,s 2 things these thieving scum bags don,t like when there busy nicking your stuff, one is a nasty dog and the other is a shot gun, both can leave there mark in a positive way, a few shots in the air will work wonders, has anybody shot a gun at night? the end of the barrels light up, looks truly menacing. I,m with @Roger Perry defend your property at all cost, because no one else will give a flying toss.

A new initiative I think in County Kerry. Milk collection truck drivers have WhatsApp group with local Police. they post messages of any suspicious activities in rural communities. They are the only people out that time of night and good reports are coming from it and it looks like it could be rolled out to other Counties.

Similar thing here, if the police are looking for someone or something they call milk collection and a message is sent to all the trucks, in cab computers with all the details, reg no's etc.
Amazing what a tanker driver can find(y)
Unfortunately they also tend to be the first to find crashed vehicles at night on rural roads too.

Well I guess in the UK you don't have the right to defend yourself and your property, and in turn you do not have a basic human right.
We are told constantly that in Europe the state always knows whats' best............this is just an example.
I guess it would not be too bad if you had good law and order but you do not, good luck with that.

However I don’t worry about my kids not coming home because they were shot dead by a crazed gunman.

I’d rather the quad got nicked.....

Over here in these United States we have a thing called a "Police force" try stealing a quad bike from a farm here and the first thing you have to get past is the farmer/rancher with a gun............if you manage to get past that then you have to deal withe cops...........they have guns also if things get sticky.

Guess what.........we don't have theft from farms.

They don't just have guns when things "get sticky", they do tend to be a bit trigger happy, although they do get shot at more often. Your laws are a lot different and on occasion the police get away with flat out murder. I'm certainly glad police in the UK and NZ don't have such loose rules of engagement.

The good news is that due to all the armed police and armed citizens along with huge homeland security budgets since 9.11, There's no violent crime in America....

Oh hang on:unsure:

Quads get nicked because they are an easy target: farmers have lax security, if they have any 'security' at all (no disrespect to the OP intended).
For a little over £15 you can fit an 'alarm mine' to a stanchion, triggered by a thin wire rope looped over the tow ball of a quad (factory trigger is rubbish, use a cottar pin through the safety hole with a thin braided wire). Just remember to hang that 'promise knot' on the handlebars, so you don't forget it's there and scare the crap out of yourself by mistake ;)
(NB - black powder blanks only, 'nitro' 32g cartridges wont ignite 'unconfined' before someone suggests it ).

If people want to go down the 'alarm' on the quad route, I think they'd be better off with one or two decent rape alarms rigged to go off, one in the shed by the quad and one somewhere on it. The noise is persistent, agonising and very startling - we shall just have to hope the thieves are too thick to wear ear defenders. (Although doing so could help in their missing the approach of dogs... :sneaky:)

Alarm mines work but always worried I would be the one to set it off. I know someone who uses them after losing their first gator. Keeps new one locked in a shipping container inside the workshop. Heard an almighty bang one night and when looking out his bedroom window saw two guys staggering out the workshop holding their heads. Would have been quite a shock going off in a confined metal box.
Another place this year had an attempted theft of their quad. When he went out to chase them off they shot at him with air rifles. Police were pretty quick out with the helicopter to try and find them but they were long gone.

Would you not ring your neighbors? If these lads knew there was a mob ready to confront them they would move to a different area. Surely there is call for an app where everyone in a locality is on it, if you are being robbed just hit a button on the app and it notified everyone in your area.
We do or ment to ?
Community Watch, Rural Watch,Ring Rounds , FB , etc etc.
All good and work ,but often 9am-4pm Mon -Fri manned.
All things happen usually outside this slot?
We are told and told ring 999 if any thing suspicious but another level is maybe needed also?

Nothing much to beat a couple of big hairy dogs.

Better still big hairy dogs trained in personal protection that'll pick up on the owner's attitude. I've noticed a lot more interest in these breeds on social media, often imported from Eastern Europe where they've had troubles and the need for such dogs.

But they do need to be trained and kennelled when not in use or you've just got yourself another liability.

Went to pick up some pallet forks recently from a decent chap, at a place with an "ornamental looking" driveway entrance:rolleyes:.
I noticed several pens with GS and mastiff kind of dogs by the house. He said he slept well enough at night.

find a load of gear and then ask local folks if anything belongs to them ,chances of a prosecution is nil

Police officer on twitter said a few months ago that when this happens, no one claims the gear because their worried insurance company will take away their replacement.
