Quad stolen with threats of violence

Sad thing is, if you had responded with violence you’d be the one in trouble. Police advice is always let the criminals take what they want.

Don’t agree, had some people back up my drive a couple of years back. I walked into my workshop and walked out with an old shot gun. They soon got in their vehicle and drove off. Just so happened I had been cleaning it that morning. [emoji23]

Happened to me a crow in the hedge at same time and you never seen them!

Nothing much to beat a couple of big hairy dogs.

Better still big hairy dogs trained in personal protection that'll pick up on the owner's attitude. I've noticed a lot more interest in these breeds on social media, often imported from Eastern Europe where they've had troubles and the need for such dogs.

But they do need to be trained and kennelled when not in use or you've just got yourself another liability.
Not knocking it but as all things related with travelling no fixed abodes. What’s stopping them killing/poisoning the dogs? If they’re in a sealed pen ie nothing can be laced and thrown in there’s no deterrent apart from the noise?

Plod will not raid a caravan site, ever. It is too expensive when they get sued for harassment of an ethnic minority... :shifty:
Cambridgeshire force did just before Christmas,, they went in mob handed,, numerous arests vehicles followed leaving the site and seized for no insurance, mot false plates, about 40 quads and crosser bykes found on the site, publisized on FB asking the locals if they recognised any of them.
Our town tribe was done over a year ago,, boat squad sat on the river watching for anything coming over the fence, 10 riot vans went in and rounded up a few naughty boys, dogs were seized, plenty of non herbal plants bagged up,
One couple taken away for modern day slavery.
Fear not,, plod will ransack them, usually in the wee small hours before they know what's hit them

If that's the best advice from an organisation your paying for I would have to say that you guys are in trouble.
I cannot say this country does not have problems with guns, but out across the thousands of farms and ranches in rural America theft of property is at a very low level, most never ever lock up buildings/vehicles.
Rural policing is good with the local sheriff being an elected position so has to have regard to the citizens wishes and concerns.

Roger I think you are trying to make things sound better than they really are. If you have no rural theft, it is a miracle, or you are not being completely honest.

Do you ever get problems with people illegally hunting on farmers land or driving over fields with 4x4s.

I can only talk about my part of Colorado which is pretty rural theft free for most part, but whole valley has only 50,000 people and is larger than several states back east.
If you are in a more highly populated area, with more people come more issues I understand that.

I think that the population density is what you and I have a hard time taking into account.

I know the sound of my dogs' bark. One for the postie and a different one for any strangers, not that I get any! Also, the kennels are wired in over the top and I wouldn't recommend a stranger trying to feed them dope or poison through the wire.

I have thought of fixing up remote catches on the kennel gates, so they could be opened simultaneously from the house at the press of a button but it really isn't needed. They'd kick up such a racket if someone was prowling about at night, I'd be out of bed and doing a Tony Martin in double quick time.
