As above what do you wear to keep warm and dry, I use the following.
On my top half ,in layers ,I use merino wool thermals as a base layer ,shirt ,sweat shirt and overalls .
Bottom half, in layers , long john merino wool thermals, jeans and the overall.
Just wondered what other TFF members use if you work outside.

In the summer I wear long sleeved shirts and jeans, in the winter I add a fleece or extra shirt if it is really cold plus a jacket.
If it is wet I roll my shirt sleeves up so the cuffs don't get soggy and wear a goretex jacket of some sort, usually unlined.
Ex-army goretex trousers are the best I have found to keep legs dry.
Anything below freezing and I will consider lined trousers.

The trouble with automatically putting more clothes on is you can't take them off again until May so I stopped bothering.

So for picking sprouts at minus one.

No jeans they are rubbish in cold weather

Belkina wellies put near the wood burner at night
Marks spencers Y fronts & thermal socks
Corduory trousers
2 pairs of flexithane waterproof trousers
tee shirt
Decent shirt sleeves fastened (in contrast to Kidds)
Good thick sweat shirt
Good padded waist coat
Hi viz motorway jacket worn with hood up.
Tesco washing up gloves & milking sleeves over the cuffs which really keep the water out.
The base ball cap was in reserve but not needed.

In 2010 as above but trapper hat with wooly hat over the top of it. Tractor left running 10 minutes working, 2 minutes in the tractor recovering, repeat. That was minus eight & heavy snow cutting stems to slowly defrost inside, 36 hour continous shift.

When it’s below 0
I will wear some soft pyjama bottoms under my jeans, vest, T-shirt, hoodie, Swandrii on top to keep the wind out, 1 pair of normal socks, 1 pair of big socks, red setter boots or wellies with leggings. Neck warmer & wooly hat which are removable when I get working, I like wooden fingerless gloves sometimes, but usually don’t bother
I don’t have a farmhouse to shelter in, out all day you need to be prepared

From the top down

Chinese pussy hat
Beard
T shirt
Long sleeved shirt
Thin gillet
Fleece
Gloves (occasionally)
Cupping boxer shorts
Slurry encrusted elasticated waistband work trousers
Thin, ankle socks
Slurry encrusted wellies

But it never gets really cold on the Sainted Isle

Do they not limit movement too much?

Its great to layer, yet sometimes you can have far too many layers which don't allow your clothes to breath.... a good hat cover your ears (where safe) and neck gaiter are the most essential!

I live in combat trousers,t shirt and hoody all year round and add a hi viz bomber jacket in winter and that’s it.after all these years I’ve had enough of cold and wet.got 3 water connections to do at moment but that will have to wait till it warms up a bit.thats probably 2 days work in mud and water.

You must really, really, really, really, really, REALLY love sprouts.

Ordinary trousers, shirt and jumper with boiler suit and fleece type jacket or waistcoat on top. Hat.
Mrs W bought me a silk vest recently. I thought it was a bit Herman Goring but it helps a bit as it’s another layer, doesn’t restrict movement, is low friction etc. I never take it off.
I actually get colder at night in bed than when I am up and about. Bedroom unheated, soon be down to about 5 deg c, but heat does my sinuses and trying to heat 2 foot thick damp sandstone just pees money away. Two duvets on.
