I knew that everyone would be offended, however if you think that doing some things properly (like lifting things up) is too expensive try having an accident with bodged up gear.
No offence intended @Pan mixer
I do think that this country and maybe the wider EU has gone to sh!t though on these matters
I regularly lift stuff with chains and slings, I look at what I want to lift and choose accordingly
What is needed is a little common sense not all these f**king rules and regulations
How much time and money is wasted on unnecessary crap, when if the government really wanted to save lives they would ban cigarettes or stop people crossing the road

My sister is actually the manager of a local hire firm in the lifting department, so I am aware of the rules and regs that industry has to follow and maybe some of the numpties that she has to deal with need babysitting, but I resent being treated like an imbecile by people who sit behind desks.
The majority of farmers should be dead by now, just because of the nature of the industry, but hopefully the majority will survive just through using a little common sense
I wonder how far isambard kingdom brunel would have got these days

I work in a paper mill on shifts as a fitter. Using lifting gear every day. The Zurich test guy is always in doing shackles chain blocks rackers and cranes etc etc. Have crack with him all the time. He always goes on about common sense. If you havnt got that then you want nowt using lifting gear!!!
Just out of interest - which mill ?

As my beloved Molwaukee drill went up in smoke yesterday I was stuck for a drill to finish the job is was at.

So dragged out the old Dewalt 14volt drill with dud batteries, took the battery to bits fitted a cable to the contacts, run them to tractor battery and bingo!!!
Drill going great. battery will last a while and I'm out of a fix till I get a new cordless organised.

Temporary setup with jump leads to try it.

Qualifies for here I think as nothing new was used !! :)

Tell me about these bodgers bits then. Not come across one before, but they sound just up my street. I am incapable of drilling a hole in the right place, or indeed the right size in many cases- would these help?!
They're tricky to start in the right place, more prone to cutting off-angle & a little too much pushing at the critical moment and suddenly you've got a hole somewhat bigger than what you were looking for - on the plus side you don't need to hunt for the right size bit!

Called a step drill. Great piece of kit, not that expensive and magic for making holes in not too thick metal, 2-3,mm is about it.

That little 14v cordless could make a 20mm hole in a 3mm thick box section. Wouldn't normally but I was modifying a already made gate and I don't own a Mag drill.

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.
