Dowdeswell with DD narrow points?
I did the same last year with pieces of subsoiler wing and long countersunk plough bolts. Full set of 10 for pennies and should make mouldboards last double the time.

Nylocks are king.
Although it pains me to admit it, we bought a 25kg bag of each size, 6mm, mm , 10mm and 12mm about 25 years ago. It was out of some guy's car boot
Running a bit low now. :(
I’ll have to disagree with you there, my personal experience is they’re as soft as :poop: and will strip easily, if possible I try to use double plain nuts, to lock things off.

In most case, a good bolted joint does not need a locking device like a nyloc and a plain nut done up to the right torque should not come loose.

However this is the bodges thread and there are probably plenty of examples where bolts are just put right through hollow sections with no internal bracing to resist crushing or loose bolts being used as pivots.

There should be a law against detachable service boxes on water tanks, or at the very least they should come with a few welding rods.View attachment 795944

Those iea water troughs should all be rounded up and scrapped. I hate the dam things they are a rubbish design. I have bolted tech screwed and god knows what else the service box’s down. Bulls just loved destroying them.
I’ve now changed them all to Ritchie ones as they made to be bolted down.

if I was buying new I buy the welded service boxes - this one was a freebie so worth a go !
but yes I agree they should be illegal

90% of things are bolted with 8.8, and I have some 10.9 that are used for shearbolts, so that logic is a little flawed
90% Of things are bolted together, the shank of the bolt is taking the weight, a 2ton+ weight suspended relying on 6 nylock nut to keep it up, doesn't work... I know I've seen them fail as well as stripped plenty tightening them up.

A few more boards are starting to crack so gonna look and see what spare metal I have to make them last a bit longer might do the lot it’s a shame they wear out where the bolts are first

I agree that they seem standard, but the 8.8 means a ultimate strength of 800MPa, with yield at 80% of this. To get this strength the material has to be hardened so they are high tensile.
