Make sure your quote for it is quite competitive, it will be a job for life!!

I doubt you'll ever deplete alluvium/soil like that.

I have been asked to cut an overgrown area of just 1500m2 and push it into heaps. Probably around 3 big bales in quantity. Idea is to deplete the soil to grow wildflowers but it has had 50 years to build fertility. How many crops of grass do you need to deplete soil fertility?

Down here they dig off the good soil to get that result. Insane and to me, criminal. But hey there is money to burn.

From experience here on local Council site a minimum of 8-10 years on formerly perm grassland.

Hello Simon,

As a presumably responsible landowner/ trust, you would do well to ensure that any bales produced are quarantined to not enter any animal food chain. I would suggest that any contract includes this as a minimum, although it may be more robust to arrange sale to power plant directly to avoid any risk.

Please don’t call the output “hay” either, as this would be disingenuous when it is nothing more than a toxic waste product.

I have carried this out for the local PC for several years. The land was close to me and I mowed and made "hay" in late August, round baled it and then left them to compost for a loooong time. Initially, it was just about suckler feed, but after 2 years the local dog owners discovered the field...

Needs to be £300/ac+ incl carting away, removing string and composting for 3 years.
If Ragwort infested needs burning....

If it has dog doo-dahs in it the stuff belongs in landfill. I shouldn't think AD plants nor the composting guys want anything to do with it. The EA are red hot on material containing dog waste for some reason.

Not at all, just that you have forgotten to add the 'disposal' charge to your quote.

Has the Land Trust vanished off TFF. Its a shame if they have as I now have a solution that does not involve dog poo hay fed to animals and would be viablle at a cost of 500 per acre so long as the land is reasonably level.

They’ll post again in July, just as they have the last two years.

They’re based not too far from you though, if you want to go see them - at the shopping centre near Birchwood railway station, iirc.
