soya will be better quality in respect of the purpose in that it will have a good (DUP) Rumen bypass protein amount .
see here what Teagasc write simply explains it ..

"” To ensure ewes are provided with optimal protein prior to lamb, he recommended the inclusion of soya bean meal as it "will have the best available digestible undegradable protein or rumen bypass protein.”

This is a protein which bypasses the digestion processes of the rumen and is available in the small intestine. Once it has reached the small intestine, it is then absorbed as amino acids, which helps with the ewe’s mammary gland development, which is important for the availability of colostrum at lambing time."

but i wouldn't necessarily use Hi pro tho. over "ordinary" soya as using less will be a bit harder to home mix. IYSWIM

The soya will have the greater DUP which is what you need in final 3 weeks of pregnancy. You'd need the protected high pro rape meal to get the bypass protein, as normal rape is mainly rumen protein then by pass.

The idea being to get more protein into the ewe, from the DUP, bypass protein, then the rumen can produce itself.
