Just out of interest, what kind of money would a legal investigation and potential challenge of this scale likely cost?

It would be significant to follw up on but some initial opinion shouldn’t be crazy money

important witn legal stuff is getting the right people and you get what you pay for so key is identifying the right person for the job with suitable previous experience

If there was a good case then you might find someone willing to take it on a no win no fee basis - imagine the implications if this became farming equ of ppi !

There’ll only be one winner!

Not when this cost an industry many millions every year there wouldn’t - sorting this protection racket / discrimination out would save us all fortunes OR make imports impossible ........ what would that do for farm prices ?

I’ve spent fortunes with lawyers in the past ...... not a single £ of it was wasted though !

The daft thing is that a lot of TFF members are also payed up NFU members, that pay money for free legal advice that should be paying for this !!

................. if the NFU didn't have a conflict of interest in RT. :banghead:

I would presume that ‘crowd funders’ couldn’t necessarily be informed of the situation should it jeopardise a potential case?

I do have to admit I’m wondering what this may mean with regards to feed costs for us livestock boys in the future (n)

I have no idea on the legalities of the case mentioned above but doubt it would achieve anything. If, for example, Waitrose dictates that all its British beef is RT certified, but also sells Irish beef that isn't, I doubt it's breaking any laws.

The odd thing about this thread though is that it's supposed to be about assurance, specifically RT as that's the one the majority of farmers are subject to. Yet the group who you want to take to court is the feed merchants quality group who just happen to specify that British suppliers have to be RT. It wouldn't have any direct effect on RT at all. Looking at posts above this seems to be lost on some people.

@FarmyStu is correct, it is the feed mills scheme that we are questioning, and not ACCS/RT.

However, if UFAS members were not allowed to differentiate supply terms between UK and non-UK combinables under competition and anti trust laws, then UK farmers would not need to be RT assured to supply these feed mills.

By extension of the same theory, this would also apply to flour mills and oilseed crushers if they were using any imported combinable crops.

As far as i can think, the UFAS rules are the only reason that we need to be ACCS assures, i.e. to be able to sell to the mills under their terms. If the UFAS rules were forced to change, then we wouldn't need to join ACCS.

I don't see any reason why it would change the price of UK cereals, so livestock farmers need not worry.

Nick...

You have to give everyone chance to log on and read the latest part of the thread ,which I have just done . I'm happy to put £50 in but there may b e others more cautious and struggling to agree to something very 'open ended' .
If there is also someone out there that has a bit of knowledge in the legal side and could some way or other give an idea of the cost and chances of success then probable doners may feel happier with chipping in. At the moment it's a bit unknown.......£50 to who for what ? We also have to be careful that ' A. N. Other ' doesn't pop up to say ' I can sort it ' then run off with the money !.......just treading cautiously but still happy to part with my £50 ......after all it doesn't take long to lose that much on farming !

I’ll agree with you to a certain extent but it was first mentioned yesterday lunchtime and I’d imagine it got read by a lot of members yesterday with it being a weekend.we will see
Nick...
I was away with family yesterday ...I don't have my phone or iPad with me on such occasions. I am with my family at the time and not concerned with looking at phone or iPad etc. Just suggesting there may be others like me that do the same . I find it so annoying when folks call by or pay a visit and they keep looking at their phone or texting .... I think you either want to be with us or you would rather keep in touch with others on your phone but please don't do both ! Likewise when I'm visiting outside of the business I too don't keep looking at my phone !
Just trying to explain a possible reason for lack of response.....not having a go !

I think we're still at the 'discussing possibilities, and strategy' at the moment, but slowly formulating some sort of a plan.

I don't suppose all that many people will, have yet, have read to the end of this thread.

As Clive says, if we can maybe get a quick hour of consultation with the right person, then we would have something more concrete to build upon.

Anyone got any contacts or recommendations? We need contract, discrimination, competition and anti-trust law expertise.
