Replacing a cement panel roof

Hi. Looking for advice on replacement of an old shed roof on the farm that forms part of the steading. The current cement roof is completely shot with multiple holes and areas that feel like wet cardboard. So it needs to go. The fact that it's constantly covered with moss is another bugbear as I have to constantly clean out the gutters. So planning on a metal roof. Currently the shed is used for storing machinery but I might convert a section of it into a workshop. So I am looking for advice on wherever I should go for insulated steel? Also looking for someone who could install in in Central Scotland, as my missus won't let me do it myself. 😕

Any building before and 1999 will have asbestos, I’m told if you stand on these you hear the crack when you hit the floor physically, is it easier to get someone else for this type of work?

Hi, I have a bit of an update. got a price from Steadmans - which I am happy with. the problem is getting someone to fit it. - the quote i have have received is almost double the price of the tin. Does anyone know who could fit this? near Helensburgh Scotland. How long do you think it would take it remove the cement board and replace with tin. I have been quoted 5 weeks! shed size is 23m x 8m

done properly the asbestos has to be removed by licensed contractor and disposed of to a licensed tip at vast cost. I am surprised it is only double the cost of the tin

There are legal H&S requirements on dealing with it and companies that do it charge accordingly.
They have large insurance costs and staff demand a premium for working with any form of asbestos or at height.
Anyone can do the job as long as they wear and use appropriate kit.

Contact Shug Stewart - Hugh Stewart Construction Ltd, if he can't do it he'll know someone who can

If it was you and a few folk to help who weren't a liability, I'd say a day each side to remove then a couple days to fit new each side then a few days to fix any corners or flashing. That's assuming there is no work to do once the old sheets are off. You may need to fit new timber to fit the new sheets to.
Also need a telescopic loadall and cage with full access.
Five weeks is sounds slow but there may be more to it than I can see.

HSE don't like cages on handlers for planned work, can't see the difference to a cherry picker myself but that's the rules. We've just bought a 15 metre cherry picker to do a conversion job and will keep it afterwards to do maintenance on the farm sheds.

5 weeks … “kenell. Slightly different but I had a 120x40 feet roof done at Xmas. Big 6 sheets, 4 lads stripped it in one day (stacked on pallets for me to load into skip to dispose of properly) and 3 lads put new roof on in one day, another couple of days for ridge/barge/gutters etc. A day either end for netting etc.

Hse don't like much. Best to keep a low profile. I know he said to get a firm in but doing himself will avoid such issues. They can't stop you teetering off ladders at home!
