Rochdale By Election

The purveyors of the “Sunny Upland” snake oil, might just well sneak in as the next government, given all the shifting sands under Starmer.
Now, there’s a thought. Five more years of what has come before, in the preceding decades. Looking good baby, looking good…

Yes, quite possible. If the appeal of popularism can latch onto something, theres a chance yet of a Labour own goal.
I still can't quite imagine KS as prime minister, too much handwringing could be his undoing, he does come across as rather 'tragic'.

At least one knows the Tories are only in it for themselves and their cronies.

Nigel Farage a true man of the people ( or so he reckons ) has stood seven times for election as an MP and been elected a total of zero times. Galloway by comparison seems to be a real man of the people
Galloway's 'parties' - if they can be called that - have been chicken feed as far as getting votes nationally is concerned. With PR both UKIP and Brexit wold have had many MPs, more than the LDs or SNP. And he was the figurehead for the most successful campaign in British political history.

I am and always will be grateful to him for his efforts regarding leaving the EU, but I'm not a fan of Farage. He's now a parody of himself at best and a dangerously delusional gobshite at worst, but the facts remain that he has been a very successful politician.

Surely a successful politician might have actually got elected at some point. Well at least to a Parliament he respects. He did get into the European Parliament though which is quite ironic really.

Colourful character, pint in hand, marching on London, plane crash, Coutts saga etc etc. For sure, an effective game changer in political matters such as, I hardly dare say it, Brexit. Whether that makes him a politician is perhaps debatable - strictly speaking they have to be elected? Even the Tory pms such as Truss and Sunsk won a vote, even if only from their own party rather than the peasantry at a GE.

It is an irony; doesn't change the fact that FPTP was designed to & does deliberately exclude smaller parties.

Occasionally, and Rochdale is a case in point, a single issue can see an independent or very small party achieve an election win, but generally it's nigh on impossible for them. And, so, we remain in a situation where a significant proportion of the electorate will never see their votes count and themselves represented.

Well I never. A speech outside No10. Usually reserved for war breaking out or announcing the death of the Monarch. And fifth year school boy Sunak gets all worked up over Gorgeous George. He of the red catsuit and Fedora. Rabbits on about the end of democracy and the rule of he mob. Such mirth, such fun.
Yes, that was ridiculous. Doing Galloway's PR for him.

He should just have let it go. It was all down to Labour's cock up anyway.
It just fell in Galloway's lap.

Absolutely pathetic. George must be peeing himself. What on earth were the Tories thinking of today. Scared of a rabble rouser, another Farage. And have madevthe government of the UK de facto clearly pro Israel and anti Palestinian. Terrible day. Far better to leave today to the Fedora and next week tease George about his licking milk.

Thing is 67 % of the people voted to retain FPTP in the 2011 referendum which is significantly more than the 51% who voted to leave the EU but if it's o.k to leave the EU then it's most certainly ok to keep the present voting system which keeps the maniacs at bay .

well… it didn’t in June 2016🙄
I got that from Hugo Rifkind on the news quiz last night. He reckoned that generally those in the middle moved their votes depending on what was going on at the time of an election but the Conservatives could usually rely on the Maniacs however now they’re worried because they are now heading to Reform.
