Root grapple for compact in the uk?

Hi - hope some here can help. I’ve spent the past week trying to find a root grapple for my 33hp compact here in the UK. It seems just about every compact owner in the USA has one of these attachments (well if YouTube is owt to go by!), but I just can’t find one anywhere here.

I’ve even been in touch with US agri suppliers to see if I can get one shipped, but they’ve just ignored the requests🙄.

Nearest thing I’ve found is a spiked muck grabber or a 4-1 bucket, but they’re not what I’m looking for. I think they refer to the kit as a clam shell style.

Any pointers gratefully received

Bit big for a compact tractor but maybe Albutt would make one to suit if asked...

Sorry. What's a root grapple??
5th one down the page perhaps?

thanks for this. If it wasn’t possible to get the clamshell ones then this is probably what I’d go for. The sligh upturned bottom teeth help prevent them digging into the earth and also retain logs a little better (apparently).

yes, that kind of shape but the front loader ones for compact are, as you say, much smaller.

It just seemed really odd to a newcomer like me for there being everywhere in the USA but non-existent here.

USA have different ideas to us.
Over there they extensively use compact tractors and skid steers. Telehandlers and loader tractors are minimal.
as such they are far more geared up with attachments etc.
compact tractors with loader are rare over here

do you reckon there’d be a market here if I imported them?

I've also been looking for one of theses, the nearest thing I've found here in the UK is a Skid steer grable bucket.

I've design a root grable myself, just waiting to get some money saved up to put it into production. I strongly beleive we are missing out! The UK smallholder market needs a attachments like this for the small tractors (25hp-70hp) with front loaders which can do lots of jobs like, clearing brush wood, removing shallow roots like brambles and stinger nettles, clearing cord timber , moving muck and hard core, etc etc. I've even seen one used to move rocks! We are defiantly missing out.

I’m no engineer so can’t comment on your design, but I think the winning features of the wicked grapple I shared the link to is that it’s light so not soaking up too much of a compact tractor’s limited Lifting power (relative to standard sized tractor) and also the clam-shaped claws, slightly up and down turned so the ‘grapple’ better

I'm aim to keep the wieght under 250-300kg and yes I also like the clam shape, the only issue with that though is that it's not very good with things like dung.

Weight will be a big factor in your design - but so long as it's not too much more than a bucket you should be good. A 30hp compact probably has a 500kg+bucket lifting capacity, so you can't make it too heavy. It's a similar design constraint with 4-in-1 buckets.

Not many compact tractors with loaders have the "3rd function" over here either. I'd like to have the 3rd function and a 4-in-1 bucket on mine, but it's not trivial to add it to a second-hand tractor. For now, I use pallet forks and careful driving.

The US folk are constantly trying to pick up huge rocks with theirs, which don't occur here so much. Over here it's more trees and brush. Can your design pick up a single trunk? It looks as though the minimum clamp diameter is quite big. Nice easy-to-weld triangle design!

You're also selling to owners with quick change buckets (e.g. often SSQA for compact tractors) so it might be possible to import existing grapples.
