Just had meeting with RPA inspectors literally today so what ever you need to know just get in touch I am happy to help 👍

Heres a question, I’ve cut tags out of some ewe lambs ears last week that are badly infected - caused by the 3 in 1 feeders i think, now I presume i need to get them retagged before my inspection to the detriment of their welfare?? Have the tags I’ve cut so i can reorder but they wont be here in time otherwise its a slaughter tag job I presume?

Have you got records of the tags in question ? If you simply state the reality of what you have done and that your tags are in order and proof of this then as long as the sheep don’t move then that’s fine

Sheep doesn’t have to be complicated always use the adage “ what’s visibly in the lugs of the sheep … need to be in your records “ but only when something happens to them as in a tagging event for the first time or replacement or on or off holding (s)

yes have full records, ewe lambs bought in from livestock market moved straight to grass keep then moved back to home, have license for all moves, have all the tags I’ve cut out in a box ready to reorder the replacements.

They can’t fine you but they can stop you moving anything if you’re non-cooperative. However the inspectors have been instructed to have a collaborative approach.
They also only have to start an inspection within 48 hrs of asking to visit
This means that if you're pushed for time or it's inconvenient to meet them all you have to do is show them a field with sheep in (over the gate) ---they then can't hassle you/stop movements for 14 days

The RPA ‘s remit is all about inspection the statutory legislation and upholding traceability. They do have less teeth now with the lack of financial subsidy implications but are still required to see evidence of compliance. If …. They are doing their job correctly they are actually instructed to “help” you comply and give you prior warning of possible issues so you can rectify these within 28 days. As said it isn’t complicated until you get into the details of movements between holdings and TLA s. If anyone needs impartial advice let me know

Iv had a call today wanting to do a inspection…
I don’t own any sheep anymore and I’m not going to be getting anymore sheep…
I don’t claim any sub and never have done.
They still want to check movement book etc.
Iv a full time job now so what would happen if I just told them no???

You can put any replacement in as long as recorded. Best not to have too many missing tags as they will ask why you haven't ordered them yet. They can see when tags are ordered.
