I had a price for rumenco stuff from Wynnstay yesterday, MAXX £21/each or £19.50 if a pallet and lifeline lamb and ewe £22/each or £18 if a pallet. That was from the guy on the daytime checkout while I was there picking something up and not 1 of the reps who you can haggle with..
Yeah I know what you mean, never accept the first price usually a deal to be had.

I had some 20kg Downland Optilix (identical to Rumenco Maxx) tubs at the same time as I had a dozen big ones, so they came at pallet price. I've just checked the invoice and they were £15.69/20kg. That was through Agrii.

Thanks for the info, especially the Agrii part, a very good friend of mine is an agronomist for them..

That still works out at £784/t

I didn’t claim it was cheap, just cheaper than £20 a bucket.

To be fair, they do a job where you want to supplement something, but with very low intakes. My April lambers are on tidying up some short, very rough grass. I’ve been giving one mob of 300 a round bale of 2012 hay every other day and they are taking 5-6 days to get through an 80kg Optilix bucket. I can’t think of anything else where they would have such restricted intakes.
I don’t want to fatten them, jus5 stop them losing as much condition while they are being forced to bear down some cr*p. I’ve never fed them for as long after (Nov) tupping before, and have been surprised at the low intakes. They’ll be stopped as soon as they go onto roots later in the month.

Out of interest how would a liquid feed compare (molasses urea) in terms of cost and consumption to those buckets? It would obviously be a lot more time consuming, but would it be cheaper?

If you feed basic molasses, it is around 13p/kg IIRC (18p/l) compared to roughly 75-85p/kg for buckets (depending on what you buy)... so for every tonne of buckets you can feed 5t+ of molasses.

With the (low protein/rough) forage mine are on currently, I would expect them to take lot more liquid feed, but to do considerably better on it. I’m only looking to stop them losing too much though, as they’ll be going onto root crop’s shortly. If they hit them in too good a condition, they will be as fat as buggery by April.

Not really a good comparison though, as straight molasses is very low in protein. Liquid feeds with similar protein (urea) levels to Chrystalix/Maxx blocks are closer to 50 ppl.

Only replying to the question asked, which was a basic molasses... I guess it depends what you actually want the molasses to do? If purely as an energy source will you be too worried about protein?

You weren't far off - 44p/l (32.59p/kg) is what I've just ordered today for what is basically the liquid version of Rumevite Lifeline (y)

I forget the Rumenco name for it, but through a Downland supplier it is Eweliq16.

It is the same product though. When I first enquired the Download sales rep put me in touch with the Rumenco liquid feed rep and animal nutritionalist who assured me it all comes from the same tank... to check up on that I went to another supplier of molasses and asked for the Rumenco analysis which read exact same as above (y)
