Hello all, I have been approached about doing a farm share, I have a meeting about it next week, just wondered what to expect and what to watch out for if anyone has any advice, I don't want my heart to rule my head, thanks
And contract dairy farming is best avoided if possible. What sort of system and cow numbers?
Most share farming in the UK is really contract farming.
Why ?And contract dairy farming is best avoided if possible.
It's basically quite difficult to match the needs of land owner and contractor. We should be encouraging land owners to grant tenancies as they are in Ireland now and give young people the trust to get on and run the dairy business on their own rather than the land owner trying to hang on often with an agent in tow taking their cut.Why ?
Not sure about tenancies, but definitely get rid of the agentsIt's basically quite difficult to match the needs of land owner and contractor. I've had experience of good and bad agents, contract farming agreements can benefit from a fair impartial third party who can mediate and take care of some of the clerical work but good agents are a rare breed. Not sure about tenancies, but definitely get rid of the agents

What are the major issues with contact farming dairy cows then ?
But let land never gets looked afterFor me it would be someone trashing the place,it's something I've considered but in reality it's easier to let the land out bare.
