Does anyone have any experience of share farming? Pros and cons?? Have a chance of share farming around 200 acres grass farm, good buildings and in a good area.

I would look at every opportunity in its own right , lot depends on the landowner and their financial position and what they hope to achieve.
I know of someone that has an arrangement for a good block of grass for next to nothing , only stipulation being the cattle all need to be the same colour so they look nice in the park in front of their house!!!!
A simple costing exercise once you know their aims , be carful of investing in infrastructure without some guarantee of return, secure some length of agreement to ensure a system can get up and running and plan escape strategy.

I agree with most people and can’t see how I’d make much doing it. The positives with it would be is that the farm is very under stocked, the farmer just wants someone with sheep to come in and look after the farm and a few of his cows. The farmer is quite well off and I’d say the farm is more for tax relief. I’m looking at it as more of a stepping stone to build up numbers to get established enough to get my own farm one day.

Really depends on the motivation of the owners, if they are looking to still achieve a commercial income, retain control and receive the tax benefits of being seen to be 'actively farming' then its a non-starter, but there are occasions when a landowner, might want to relinquish some control and profit because they do want to be involved in shaping the future of their farm.

I think as some others have said - it's a bit of a "How long is a piece of string?" kind of question. There's a lot of variables but the fact there isn't as many out there for sheep as there is for dairy or arable tends to speak volumes. Doesn't mean the right deal isn't out there though so worth a conversation at very least!

Did you decide to give it a try? What sort of terms were offered? Is there a management fee per head then a split of the sub and any profit? With regards to the profits, how does it work if the owner investing on infrastructure (increasing their value) to lower the available profit?
