What are you wanting to do in it? We bought one for trimming sheeps feet but found it hard work that’s when dad used to insist on trimming I don’t think we even own a pair of shears now and haven’t trimmed a foot for at least 10 years. For clipping bums we just do them standing up in the race. Bit rough on the sheep too I thought

WM Ironwork are the best, got 1 from 1995, used to be used all the time, all the sheep holding arms have been off it for almost 10 years and it’s just used as a double locking gate at the end of our 35’ dosing pen, also handy gates for slowing sheep down for drafting.

newer ironwork is best , (the heavy one) that drops back before you turn it over , more a permanent fixture in yard to do adult stock rams feet when needed , ours is mostly used for mot on ewes at weaning feet/ udder / teeth/ bolus , absolutely brilliant for vet to do teaser rams .

We have one of the older Ironworks ones, a lethal bit of kit, has trapped many a finger, leg and horn in the past.:inpain: Problems are with loading the sheep, a two man job, as with the entry gate closed, our sheep will step back from the front clamp, so need pushing into place, as there is limited adjustment for the clamping bars. The drop gates have the habit of er, dropping when least expected, usually with parts of the human anatomy in the way. I have covered most of the open sides and headrest in ours to stop legs, horn etc being trapped when the sheep is righted. The newer ones are far better designed (and safer for the operator).

I used to get on fine with the WMI mk1. The only reason it's no longer in regular use (last time was to hold a ram for vasectomy) is because foot troubles have been focused on hard, and it isn't needed ~ for now, at least.
