Shell propane bottles

We had a load left in our yard after a Tennant moved out, scrapyard didn't want them unless they had a hole in them, so got the rifle out, .223 hole and then sold them for scrap.
There does seem a bit of a trend for people to make log burners/waste oil burners etc out of them so you may get more on ebay or such but would I suspect be the normal ball ache dealing with people.

If I remember correctly, they are returnable to FLO_GAS dealers, remember you do not OWN a gas bottle ,they remain property of the gas company, or their successors.
EDIT
Flogas will collect them from you for free: See list of brands they accept.

I know I don't own the bottles (I have a dozen of various makes knocking about), but someone (previous owner of place and tenant) paid a deposit and yet they wont give me the deposit back when I tried to return them. If they won't give me a deposit, why should I deliver them back using my diesel? I would rather see them rust in the corner of the yard than give them back for nothing, I don't know if I am just being grumpy but that is how I feel.

Poor attitude.

They are sold & trust you to return. My Dad bought these in a hard winter to keep potatoes warm, then they got trapped at the back of a store shed & forgotten.

Same as blue pallets. If I get any, I admit I use them but always to a business, where chep collects twice a week.

Advertise them on facebook or somewhere. People buy them ether so they don't have to pay a deposit or to make logburners/firepits whatever. Not exactly megabucks but better than nowt.
Immediately post covid lockdowns you couldn't get empties for love nor money. I sold my spare ones for more than I paid for the full one. I think those days are gone but there's still a demand.

We sell FloGas at our rural supply store.

We were told before we took on the gas business “There’s nothing easy with bottled gas”, and that is a certain fact.

it seems that last September all the gas companies changed their policy and ruled that the charge paid upon buying your first bottle of gas was just that - a charge and NOT a returnable deposit.

If we get a customer bringing a cylinder to us with a deposit (as it used to be) receipt, we will honour that and reclaim it from the previous store owners.

But any new customers are not happy with the new arrangement and occasionally refuse to buy the gas and cylinder, driving off empty handed. It’s surprising how many come back though and resign themselves to the situation!

We get a bit of a mouthful of some people who think we can swap Calor for Flogas too.

Like we were told, there’s nothing easy!!

Seems crazy to me
Those bottles must have a value a lot higher than the deposit ,i think all mine stand me £27 each , there is no legal obligation to return them ,thats why you see them every where you go littering the countryside , if the deposite was returned like it used to be they would all end back with their suppllier , the only reason i was told for mot returning the deposit was it would ecourage some to go around nicking them
