sickly calf?

hi,can anyone give an opinion on this calf? aa calf , 1 month old, doing well. went out on saturday ,calf looked a bit empty,, under the weather, a dirty tail but not skittery. no better on sunday or monday. brought it in and dosed it for coccidosis.it,s mother has been sucked out all the time.the calf moves about slowly but it appears stiff on its legs , not moving freely. suggestions? thank you?

Temperature? Has it got scours or not? It's been 4 days I would call the vet first thing tomorrow and see what he says.

Stiff on its legs could be joint ill but seems a bit old to get that? Could have hurt itself in the field, maybe got stood on or kicked?

I would be getting it back inside for a few days with its mum and jabbing it with antibiotics, maybe tube it once with some water to hydrate it. Maybe another calf has sucked the cow out.

I've had a heifer this year that I'm almost certain another calf must have sucked her out. A month old calf went from healthy (but small) to almost dead in a couple of days. No sign of scour but it's been inside on rehydration powders for a few days but kept going backwards . Tried it with a bit of powdered milk on Tuesday night and it went straight through it. I suspect it's guts are now knackered regardless of what caused the initial problem. Will be phoning the knackers today I think.

hi, had vet this morning, after effects of coccidiosis, gut damage, calf will recover, take about 3 weeks.

Good to hear I find unless you are sure of the problem and can fix it in good time the quicker you call the vet the better, even if its just for advice over the phone.

Had a calf a couple of weeks old that suddenly went down and quickly died.
Temperature was below normal.

Sent it for PM and it had a congenital heart defect.
Apparently this is more common than people think.

@Frank-the-Wool I had a cow with it, gave birth and dropped dead the next day . Calf got cocci, but same as OP, got better. By the time you see it, the damage is done. I put honey, half a crushed iron tablet and a pinch of bicarb in his bottle once a day.
