Right first time working somewhere with a silage pit. Why am I not getting a better sealed face when using the shear grab? It’s sharp but is it operator error or is the pit not rolled well enough? Silage too dry? It was put in the pit with a JCB 416 loading shovel?

It doesn't look like it's been rolled enough and maybe to dry, hard to tell from photo. Will get a picture of ours today. If it's too dry it's really hard to clamp and roll nicely.

That’s my suspicion it was drier than I would have liked when it was chopped!

This is second cut and very dry, buckrake man got stuck and had to be pulled off a couple of times, he really struggled with a 260hp tractor.
It’s cutting fine with a 2 year old pro dig shear bucket that I haven’t seen the need to sharpen yet.
Our face is like that, analysis say 42%DM.
I'd say more likely 30.
Swapping from SP to trailed has meant better fermentation , consolidation and more acres in clamp!
