Sir Athelstan Joseph Michael Eavis … Arise

Knighthood for services to the music industry & charity

Pity dairy farming wasn’t mentioned in the citation
Quite so, as he’s no mean operator, won the Gold Cup.
The whole honours thing has lost its value, heard Kevin Sinfield last night on the radio, he said we( Rob Burrow) didn’t do it for recognition, we did it to raise awareness and funds for MND. They were deserving of Knighthoods, CBEs it was , while fat cats picked them up.

yea like Michael , see him about when he drives through our village a few miles away , though rode a cart and horses through the local council over the years with the festival , need a few more like him in the HoC not afraid to take a risk and take the establishment on . put a lot back into local community , the new Pilton Village hall has to be the best around here with built in co-op ,and a football pitch and clubhouse next to his farm . also built houses for the locals to live in . Yes its a bit of hassle for a few days a year , but look forward to it .

I used to play snooker down the Working Men's Club years ago. He's certainly done a lot for the area.

Dennis Matheson has been awarded an MBE, he really is an amazing man. I have met him through the TFA and the effort he has put in to helping others for many years is awe inspiring. He is someone who richly deserves recognition, a true gentleman.

“The Tenant Farmers Association is delighted that it’s Welsh Chairman, Dennis Matheson, has been given an MBE in his Majesty the King’s New Year Honours list recognising Dennis’ outstanding service to the tenanted sector of agriculture in Wales.

TFA Chief Executive, George Dunn said “I am over the moon for Dennis. He has sacrificially volunteered his time to represent the Tenant Farmers Association in Wales over the past 12 years including as Chair of TFA Cymru since 2012. Dennis is always prepared to go the extra mile for the TFA and for tenant farmers in Wales. His dedication to advancing the cause of the tenanted sector of agriculture knows no bounds. Given his remote location, his work for the TFA will often involve extremely early starts and late finishes alongside his responsibilities in running his tenanted farm.

“The extent to which the issues impacting tenant farmers are front and centre in the minds of policymakers is in very large part due to the sacrifice and dedication of Dennis in ensuring that the needs of the sector are both articulated and understood. In all of the groups upon which Dennis volunteers to represent TFA Cymru, other group members and attendees can be in no doubt of Dennis’s commitment to ensuring that the unique circumstances of tenant farmers are fully appreciated in every policy and practical sphere,” said Mr Dunn.

Commenting on his award, Dennis said “I was totally astounded and delighted to learn that I was to receive an award for services to the agricultural tenanted sector in Wales. I am delighted to proudly accept the award on behalf of all the team at the TFA and would pay particular tribute to our Chief Executive, George Dunn, who has worked tirelessly since devolution to raise awareness of the unique position of those that farm nearly 30% of the land in Wales not farmed by owner occupiers. In addition, I would like to thank my Vice Chairman in Wales, Elwyn Evans, for his support, encouragement and practical input.

“It is gratifying that the Welsh Government has recognised that its proposed Sustainable Farming Scheme poses particular problems for tenants and that it has been prepared to make reasonable adjustments to its proposals. The TFA has also worked closely with the CLA, representing landlords in Wales, to address the same issues. After all, without landlords there would be no tenants and without tenants there would be no landlords, said Mr Matheson.”
