I'd probably be interested, is it 12 speed syncro ?
It's a 12/12 shuttle .. L reg

Had it from new. Been very reliable really as we used to use it for everything including jobs that it really was too small for !

Clock stopped at 6500.. I think you can double that figure and not be far off..

1 problem though.. My dad is dead set against selling it ! I half agree with him and half would love to be rid of it, depending on what mood I'm in !

I'll put some pics up, :finger:

You mentioned it needed 3 new gearboxes, 2 new hitches, and I'm sure something else, that wouldn't be how I'd describe a reliable tractor, but sadly it's of no interest to me as it's shuttle box, I had mistakenly thought you said 12 speed syncro

:ROFLMAO: Guess it's how you view it really...

We loved it, and frankly abused it terribly...
4 furrow auto reset reversible plough that was really too much for her,
14t grain trailers
Quadrant baler
Dump trailers
Etc etc

Never touched the engine, brakes or front axle..
One of the gearbox's was my own fault as the small spring on the gear selector broke and I decided to tow it home with the fastrac...

Turns out towing a tractor stuck in low range is not a bright move ...

The rest is just wear and tear really... on a back end that is essentially the same as a 165 !!

our 12/12 shuttle had gearbox issues twice once was the spring other was a shaft and gear bearing etc needed, 1100 of parts and again when sold required engine and gearbox repairs..

I've a 398 and have in the past used a 4 furrow auto reset plough, dump trailers etc, but I'd imagine it all depends on how hard you push it, I'd imagine a quadrant baler would be quite hard on the hitch, and especially on what is essentially a 1960s design

It handled the plough fine, it just did it for years !! Pulled the top cover off a few times due to the shock loading on the road I guess..

Ran the quadrant like a train... we used to use it as our back up incase the main baler tractor let us down.

Perkins 1000 series engine is an animal !

That was the engine that was said it could go round the world twice at ploughing speed before needing an overhaul

our 1000series 399 needed engine work ar 6-7000hrs when sold, apparently it was common on the early ones to tighten on the 5-6 cylinder, pity as the day before we set the tappets as she was getting hard to start, after that it hardly got over to it started, and the next morning mowed hills in m4 that normally was m2, 18 acres later and it was all over, no pull. sold to trade in place of 3125. the 6354 399 is still here and showing 9300odd hrs, bit disappointed last night when mixing slurry plenty of black smoke but no flames. I give it to the first fill of diesel is used mixing and the flames will be back.

I always thought the 1000 series would leap over the 6354 ? Or has yours seen the spanner fairy ?

Our neighbour had engine trouble with his 1000 s

both got injector pumps reconditioned at the same time, one got easier on fuel and the other got worse, the 6254 got it done up 4 years ago as it was drinking the fuel. no spanner remaps, just my brother detested it and showed it no mercy, when we bought it it wouldn't pull a 12x7 silage trailer, by the end of the summer it didn't know a 14x7 was there, he drove it with the aim of sh1t or burst, revving to 28-900 revs to match 40km machines, ran without water a few times, drive through a fence and back out onto road without missing a load of silage by another driver when looking for the light switch, really what we have asked of it many others wouldn't manage.
as bold as we were the neighbour wanted a tractor to shift a digger he has a 398 so took the 399, we didn't know he had 21 ton digger and 3 axle lowloader to we met it on the 399, that takes guts round here without 4wd braking.

hitch has been reattached with oversize studs into the base of the tractor. several 4wd shafts, think we are up to 6 now in total, one pto pack one internal hydraulic pump, 3-4 external pumps and similar orbaital units, new rad, few batteries, few water pumps, new front pully for water pump(that's a dear one and hard to find) and currentkly would need the shaft that drives the external hydraulic pump.

I'd have a 6354 any day , my experience of 1000 series is that they wouldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding, however only ever used 4 cylinder 1000series
the 1000 series are grand after the start of them, easier on juice and lug well i found, never owned any from new and our current 6180 has had engine work but someone was in there before us and butchered it right, its sorted now but i have never heard of that many needed work done and they are fitted in a lot of machines form 1991?

our 1000 series never did that but the 6.354 did and will again. 390 does it to, but hasn't the pull to match. does them the world of good.

Not pull the skin of a rice pudding someone said. 1006.6 engine 19006 hours, flat to the tin mixing a 250,000 gallon underground slurry tank on a pump that's rated for 200hp, steady for six hours. Slurry ban is over, umbilical will be here in the morning.View attachment 856570View attachment 856571View attachment 856572
I used to regularly get the 690 like that, I don't doubt for one minute that doesn't pull well, like I said my experience of 1000 series engine were all 4 cylinder, 4355 and a McCormick, both same engine and both gutless

Do you open the bonnet panels to avoid burning the decals or just leave it ??

Ours is all scorched down one side from her forage harvesting days ...
