Below, we will be providing updates on the development of our soil sampling protocols and provide materials to aid our Root Rangers in collecting and packaging the samples correctly. Make sure to add your comments on which soil samples you feel are most valuable for added knowledge. We would also love to hear your thoughts on the protocols; let us know what you think works well or may work better. Get involved and gain knowledge ⬇️ 😃

We took a trip to University of Nottingham yesterday to see Dr. Craig Sturrock demonstrate how to take soil cores successfully and package them to ensure they remain intact during postage. We were also joined by Dr. Maria Hernandez-Soriano to take a closer look at how to take the soil samples used by the John Innes Centre to better understand soil Rhizosphere and PES Technologies for their Soil Nose.

A video with details will be released soon. In the meantime, make sure to join the Soil Circle to receive important project updates by clicking here. By joining the Soil Circle, you will also be able to join in with the discussion below and across all other BOFIN-run forums.

The soil sampling protocol has now been developed and will soon be sent to our Root Rangers. Following our trip to University of Nottingham at the end of March 2024, we have put together the video below to give guidance on how the sampling should be carried out. Scientists from Uni of Nottingham and John Innes Centre give us an insight into what we will be doing with the samples received from farmers and how they will help us in our mission to unveil soil secrets...

Soil Sampling using cores data is only as good as the known full soil profile, it is important to know your soil classification as well as type and structure, the geology aside the top and sub soils is the lower ranges, which will indicate the capabilities of the soil based on soil actions above ground. Also important awareness moment that www.pestechnologies.com will later this year release a new comprehensive field soil analysis tool. We are working with them in the commercialisation development of the system.

You are exactly right! This is why we are collecting three different soil samples; cores, rhizosphere and bare soil samples. Some of these soil samples are going directly to project parts PES Technologies to help train the soil analysis toil, ready for commercial use 😄

Thanks, great to see us all working towards similar goals. We are always interested in sharing experiences and progressions. A complimentary tool for field water analysis we are involved with is the mobile solution https://proteus-instruments.com/ our adoption for. real-time came from the use of our Rescaype micronised soil flocculant which is shown to have extensive benefits beyond other soil conditioners. Identifying that Carbon is never truly stored just relocated until such environmental impacts then see it become liquified and or transmuted into gas. At Soilwater we work at promoting reducing Carbon Cycling along with other GHG through soil structural resilience and water retention properties using an Ionic catalyst material replicating fungi networks.
