Not really, we could all see it coming, it seems the only people that couldn’t are those running western economies.
Yes shocking really. Buying cheap whilst shutting down our own industry.
Steel, clothing, ships, tools, etc etc.
When it's too late we may wake up and realise we can never compete on price but money isn't everything.
Donald wasn't as daft as he appeared.

Have China played a blinder? produce everything far cheaper than Europe/USA can, get everyone hooked on buying cheaper Chinese steel, electronics etc, kill off overseas industries then cause supply problems and boost the price up to the same or above what we were paying for home produced stuff in the first place?
as l under stood it, china have fallen out with australia, their main supplier of coal and iron ore, and the good old aussies are not withdrawing their comments about covid being china's fault, so stalemate, well not quite, aus has found new mkt's in s korea, india and other close countries. Hence you hear about power cuts in china, because not enough coal to keep the coal fired power stations going.

Not just steel. We're having major problems at the minute getting electronic components. Some parts are on backorder until June and some are on backorder until well into 2022! It was on the BBC news a couple of days ago that Jaguar Land Rover are halting production for a couple of weeks because they can't source components either. Much of the global semiconductor industry is based in Taiwan. If Taiwan falls under the Chinese sphere of influence, either through covert manoeuvring or overt military action, the Western world will have a very serious problem on its hands.

I think there's problems all over the world with the supply of things. There's been huge backlogs of everything here since Christmas. One of the big problems being boats weren't getting unloaded and containers were in the wrong place.
The container problem seems to be getting worse. I've heard some freezing works are stopping or reducing output because they've run out of freezer space and can't get ships in to move product.
Heard of another processor that may stop production this week, not because they can't sell it they just can't get it on a boat.
Interesting times.

we put a big barn up in 75, delayed for weeks, no steel girders, the ones that eventually arrived, were imported from japan. Everything relies on an ultra efficient 'just in time' delivery system. That system has been hampered by politics, pandemic and a blocked canal. The result, containers in the wrong place, ships unable to do their 'rounds' goods not produced on time etc. And firms need to get going again, a bit of help needed, a lobbyists field day, politics make the world go round, well a bit of grease here and their................

Ive heard JCB have run out of ECU's. I assume same problem JLR had the other week.
Apparently having to keep swapping them off the machines just to get them off the line and parked up.

Tried ordering new wheels for the new spreader. They ordered some last month for another job and were told it could be October delivery.

I’m not precious about it, said if they could adapt some used wheels that would be fine.

Steel price has nearly doubled if I wanted them to make new ones bespoke.
