Straw in the swath

So pick a price from last year and double it
But what it will be in Autumn Sales will remain a mistory as it always is

History will tell you that after a dear year follows a cheap

But History as never seen this

On Sussex Downs and parts of Kent crops have never looked better

But as we all know there are parts of the Country especially on hevier ground that have no crops hardly

The main reason for the shortage atm is the dreadfull weather we had at harvest
Weather is always the biggest player in all this
My mate as back tracked on SF1 and put 500 acres of spring barley in a a fair bit on Spring wheat ,think he smells more money in selling straw

The big prices at this time of year are one thing, but come harvest time nobody wants to shift it because most folks are busy and price off the field is always talked down by so many buyers.

We buy some barley straw that next door and sell wheat straw off an out-farm that's 7 miles away, so I see both sides, but I bale as soon as it's fit and clear immediately, I bale the wheat that we sell but the same cannot be said for the folks who buy it.

Here we go talking it up already….. livestock farming is in a very sticky place financially at the moment. I’ve lived through 80s 90s through other tough patches for our industry but believe me the next several years are going to be worse. I suppose you’ve got to get the best price for your product, but rinsing us too hard will finish a lot off. Suppose you can then flog it to power stations.
I know I can’t ride anymore price increases, our party will soon be over otherwise. I dare not even think about the next 12 months.
Slightly off topic but had a look at York machinery sale results last night,i honestly say I’ve never seen so many unsold items. I think you’ll find that’s a good barometer on the industry’s confidence.
