Stubble/straw rakes

For what you are hoping to do I would find a machine with discs that can work really shallow and forget the straw rake part.
We started out with a straw rake then changed to a Horsch Joker but have now settled with a Kockerling Vario and are really pleased with it, can work extremely shallow or a bit of depth to incorporate if needed.

I had a Mzuri Rezult disc/tine demo a few years ago before buying a Claydon tine only rake. My main criticism of doing both together is you have to lift it on the headland to turn which drops out any lumps just where the straw is thickest already from where the combine goes in and out. Tine only rakes can be left down all the time which spreads better.

If the discs are all angled one way you could turn gently in one direction which would help keep the machine down and avoid big deposits on the headland.

I have one and am yet to be convinced of its ability to encourage a chit. It will not incorporate muck. Jury is out on the chopped straw front, albeit I have not used it on cereal straw, only rape. It has helped spread straw that the baler misses, particularly if it has been moved. It doesn't hold onto it long though so it only moves it a bit.
