Impressive, well done.
Thanks!
Not without the usual dramas though. I bought a new Simmy bull at stirling in Feb . After watching him faf about and show little interest for 2 weeks, I flung the old AA bull out with him. The Angus I think served all 35 cows. I will find out by colour of calf come Apri. I hope to get some Simmy calves on the ground, but if none appear , the Simmy will be gone ! The joys of buying Shiny corn fed Stirling Bulls !:banghead::banghead:

that's a good point
It makes sense for me to keep them away from the bull as those old cows you hope won't get in calf invariably do and you either need to kill an in calf cow or let her calve down then live to regret it with her not rearing the calf well then going backwards.
Might not work for everyone but we have space for a small group so can do it.

I kept 4 old dears away from the bull this year , and they ran with the tups until weaning, then straight to the slaughter house . As you say it’s always the ones you don’t want in calf that hold !

Pd forty today with three empty and two only eight weeks in calf. One of the empty ones is a late calves heifer and the other held it’s clensing and so expected those

We scanned ours yesterday!
13 empty cows out of 135
5 empty out of 40 heifers!

Not as good as last year but scanner says the average he is seeing is around 15% Empty!

4 of the younger cows are ones that either slipped there calf or died stillborn so regretting giving them that one more chance now!

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.

This webinar will be...
