Sucklers on cubicles

Location

Keep a gd slope on the cubicle bed... to the back of the cow.. so when cow reverses out of the cubicle bed she push the dung out wit her feet.. wat used be done ere .. was jst to leave cubicle bed raise 4'' of the slats.. and a level bed... lot harder to keep clean.. so now we leave a large slope and never much cleaning to be done..

Chap near us, Simon Frost he was a farmers weekly moniter farm a few yrs ago, had cubicles with rubber mats on the floor for LimX sucklers. I visited whilst at uni (so about 8-10yrs ago) and it looked a tidy set up. Would need to be religiously scrapped out every day though, whereas with a heelstone it wouldn't matter as much if you missed the odd day. Not sure if he still has the same set up now.
Thats where im getting this idea from i think. He put charolais bulls on them didnt he?

I just wonder if sucklers wouldn’t slacken off wall fixed cubicles with their roughness? I’d think there would need to be a good slope if not raised off ground....., akin to sloping shed
Thought i could weld brackets to the stanchion, maybe a extra post in between. Then if i didnt want the cubicles in place i could slide them all up to the end of the shed

Was just about to post the same thing (y)
was a brilliant idea especially with wide passages, would save a lot of straw as I recall he just had mats down and didn't bed or anything.
Were you at harper? I reckon we went at about the same time:scratchhead:

Look at teemore engineering super loop+ cubicles. Cantilever style that attach to two rails (tubes) which are attached to the uprights of the shed (using u bolts plus brackets welded to the uprights). If 15' bays need 76mm rails. If 20' bays you need to put in posts every 10' and use 60mm rails. This system is very flexible on spacings then (move them again if necessary). We have fitted a lot in the last few years.

Anybody got the flexible, plastic cubicles for sucklers? Would they be up to the job? Will be for approx 750kg Blondes. Need to put 2 rows in for next winter and I'm looking at options. Was thinking of doing it on the cheap trying to source 2nd hand divisions and mats but I see that in the next round of grants you can get flexible cubicles.

Ripped out a mid 90s set of cubicles from a shed last autumn to go with open plan straw bed. What a difference, cows are immaculate clean and comfortable, we were scraping out every day and bedding 3 times a week with machine. Now we are dropping 6 or 7 bales in each side every 6 days and letting them spread themselves.

The cubicles we had weren’t big enough for suckler cows, would have been fine for dairy youngstock but don’t know who sold them to my father in law or what the thinking was at the time. Straw would have to get very expensive before I would ever consider going back

I’ve put my weaned calves on the cubicles and converted the straw bedded shed they were in into a sloped floor for the cows. Both cows and calve are cleaner, use less straw and produce less slurry, win win in my opinion, cows are happier and saved a fortune on straw

Try Niall at Oddball Engineering. 07780912961
I got my cubicles and rubber matting from him. Granted not flexible cubicles but I'm sure they would supply them too.
They are agents for Condon Engineering who have the Hybrix Flex Cubicle.

Well took the plunge, went for condon engineering flexi cubicles, they were the strongest I managed to find.
really happy with them, all cows bar one went in without any problems. The biggest cows are 900+kg.
