Sumo GLS sub soiler points

We have a Sumo GLS subsoiler which is primarily used to alleviate compaction on our silage ground and in some tricky areas of the arable block. It is primarily used in silty sandy loam soil so doesn't take that punishment from stones. We generally get around 40 acres out of a set of cast iron points sourced from our local dealer. I priced some new points the other day and they're coming in around £38/point.

I took a look online and came across some alternative options for points on the agri line website. Have any of you an opinion on the points with a tungsten tip or the higher specd tungsten reinforcing on both tip and wings?

I’ve got some from apm to try I’ve not put them on yet. I’m running them along side my normal hard faced points to compare.

I was only getting 150 acres out of them before the wing was worn so started getting them hardfaced by someone local. The current set on the sumo have done 700 acres and about worn out but still have a full width wing.

What type were you getting 150 acres out of and what sort of ground are you working on?

The original mdt points that Ive now had hardfaced. Mixtures of clay to free draining sand stone. 8-12 inch’s deep in a trio.
Ryecroft has some wonder stuff i believe ,that they "weld" or fuse on weari g metal ,is it that ,
Using apm twb subsoiler points ,they have tungsten on points and wings ,and some wear ridges on wings ,they are wearing very well ,
And tried some spaldings ones ,but their ld points ,their tungsten and metal must be cheese compared to apm ,not done half acreage ,
Best ld points are agricast , have done around 400 acre now and have just put a ££££££ amount of ferobide on them ,now that can see where the wear is starting to show ,so should last a good while ,expensive ,but cheaper as kept shape and not always changing ,
Use shakerator stuff on the flinty gravel @Captain Slack ,you know the fields in question ,when we tested the ferobide 🤭 Tortures any metal

Yes that is where I have had it done. Only downside I’ve noticed is that as it’s a I level finish then it leaves a unlevel wear on the leg behind it.

It’s definitely more cost effective to have it done. I’ve run out of stock of normal points now so that’s why I was wanting to try the apm to see if it’s worth just buying then point already hardened. I’ll not really find out this year now tho as I’ll probably end up ploughing for barley and second wheat as I’ve not had much of a chit with it being so dry.
