Who needs food...? The countryside is for people in the city to enjoy, not for those rich farmers to pollute the environment and destroy! All that land should be taken off of the evil farmers and given to the state so that they can restore it to nature and build loads of new footpaths (with good disabled access) so that wayne and waynetta can have a good romp.

In all seriousness, if that will happen or not will depend on the next govornment.. We don't know for sure what their priorities are, but we do know that they wanted to introduce right to roam... so I wouldn't hold much hope for them stopping this.

Would concur with your comments. Next likely Labour administration will do more or less what the current useless mob have been doing. As you said food production isn’t a priority these days. We will all starve as we sit in the rugged unattended countryside unless of course we eat imported food produced to lower standards which is a complet contradiction in terms. We are governed my numpties and that’s being kind!

Who needs food? But others must have seen the generals, sabre rustling, about the potential threat, war in the next 10-20 years with russia, but by then, russia wont have to fight us? They and china will have conquered us? Food will then be academic?

Even in WW2 we struggled to feed the country ourselves. We had to import food, and have rationing. There have been massive advancements in yield since then, but also massive population growth and loss of land.. If they think that we might be going to war, they need to push self sufficient food far more. That is partly why we had a butter mountain and a milk lake etc etc, the govornment wanted reserves in case of war. We seem to be going into cold war mk2, could maybe see a return of that sort of policy.

Was this crop yield data compiled in a British pub?

The rest of the world might be able to double yields but I think the UK will have plateaued.

Would be interesting to see the tons overall produced in the country. Might paint a different picture. In the war they ploughed up every bit of land they could possibly plough up. The polar opposite of what they are doing now.

Apparently there's a drop in session at Snailbeach village hall on Wednesday Feb 7th between 6 and 9 for people to give their views to NE staff 🙈
