Tandem axle slurry tankers

Afternoon all

I’ve searched on here but couldn’t find a thread.
Considering upgrading our tanker to increase output. Choices are Hi spec/abbey/Redrock 3000 gal single or tandem axle. Maybe a tandem axle 3500 as it’s not much more in price. What I’m not sure of is the manoeuvrability of a tandem compared to single axle tankers especially swinging into gateways. Wondering if anyone could shed some info or experience?

thanks
So what was the eventual outcome, tandem or single axle and best / value of tanker

Definitely would recommend a tandem axle, smooth on the road and you’ll never fail to get in a gateway with rear steer, getting out is a different story however! In the process of pricing up a new one, priced up a Redrock and an Abbey, going to go for the Redrock as I have heard a lot of positive reviews and there isn’t much between them on price. Currently running a hispec 3500 wont be having another one.

Could you elaborate more on not choosing a hispec again?

Snapped axle, drawbar cracked where the springs for the suspension sit and where the trailing shoe linkage is attached to the tanker cracked. Hi Spec were less than helpful when it came to sourcing a new axle as well and we were told by the axle manufacturer, (who was very helpful) that the axles it was running on should never have been under there in the first place.

Sounds like a bad one! Haven’t heard of many dodgy hispec tankers and there’s a lot in this area.
currently pricing same tankers as you and the abbey and Redrock seem more compact compared to a hispec equivalent.

do you mind me asking what axle was underneath the hi spec. Was it a Chinese hos? ( not knocking these makes because they are backed by distag and are fitted to a good few different tank manufacturers)
I know for the single axle 2.5k gal tanks they are rated to 16 ton these would be 420 x 180 or 420 by 200.
