Do people use their tankers in 540 or 540 E as a rule?

Depends on the ground. Dry and flat 540e no problem. Damp spring sticky ground the tractor may need some more wellie so 540

540e if you can get away with little revs on the field. 540 if spreading uphill.

I find the revs are usually so low spreading anyways that it’s almost pointless running in 540e

If you do a fair bit of tankering then worth looking into putting pump onto a spool and doing away with pto shaft, then you can run pump on tick over.

Ran our old tanker on 1000 for a while until it spat a chunk of the side of the gearbox across the field

Always run my own in 540. 1200 tractor revs equals 320rpm and more than adequate for spreading in the field - leaves some margin for a hill to add more engine revs.

Did do some work for another man using his tractor and tanker and insisted that it run on 1000 for filling and spreading in 540 the contrary bugger.

540. Got a few hills so ground speed is the issue here, macerator pulls a bit more than I would like for the dribble bar.

When I did a fair bit of tanking on a dairy farm I changed from 540e for filling to 540 for spreading. 540e to get 540 shaft speed at lower revs for filling and then 540 with only few engine revs for spreading as that particular tanker didn’t let the slurry out fast so pressure was always blowing off in any case so no need for loads of shaft rpms.

Why were you filling at 540 rpm?

Filling can run on 1000 at tick over maybe around 320 rpm
