Tarquin and Tamsin- job offer for you?

No previous experience needed. I can see this going well. FFS. Just reintroduce a random species, assume it will be AOK and throw in two rangers who don't have a clue? Sounds great.... Some organisations have more money than sense. Haven't they heard that ruminants are bad for the planet then?

Where the hell do you start with this rubbish.....

They say;
“This is a truly unique role for the UK. It’s a chance to manage a free-roaming herd of Europe’s largest living land mammal"

and

"The herd of four European bison will be introduced into a 200-hectare (500-acre) fenced enclosure in the woods "

But at least there is some recognition that livestock actually benefit the environment.

Farmers all over the country do this kind of work for free and are having to defend their actions and then it gets ponced up to a 'project' and they get over £1.1 million and think they're saving the world.

Not only ruminants but tree felling ones at that

My fencing contractor has just quoted for the job.
The materials alone are over half a million pounds.
45 kms and most double fenced.
I will look forward to when they get out as just up the road is Howletts Zoo and then we will have proper rewilding!!

Half a mill? Feck! I would think electric fencing would be the only thing that would keep them in anyway, how does that come to over £11/m for materials?
They’re only the size of average cattle.
If I was doing it I would clear the perimeter with a 360 then 4 strands of electric on steel posts.

Can you believe the circle jerk this is, over 1 million being spent on 4 beasts?? FFS. Wouldn't 4 cows be cheaper? Tell me, do Bison get TB and need TB testing?
Yes and yes. I saw some other people discussing it and someone said their is very weak evidence that Bison ever existed in the uk anyway. Someone else suggested it would be cheaper to employ 2 rangers and just give them a chainsaw each!

They might hurt themselves on the electric and it all has to be double fenced as well!!

Also they are hoping that people will come and look at them so they can get a bit of money back for employing Tarquin or Tamsin or any others of you that want a cushy number!!
