Testing for fungal / Bacteria levels in soil.

I am looking to start usung the johnson su compost extract method to help soil health.

A vital metric is to swap from bacteria dominated soil to fungal dominated.

In the usa labs can measure this, has anyone gone down this road??

8 minutes in, and so far he's talked a lot but said absolutely nothing.
I'm not sure if he'd just another 'New Age Ag' guru from or a complete moon howler.
10 minutes: Oh wait a minute, it turns out he's a salesman, whatever an 'extractor' is. I wonder if it's for 'extracting the pee'?
13.15:, now he's off on a tangent about the link between sleep apnoea, calcium, Cpap machines, and "mother calcium" being a muscle relaxant for soil.
It's just a jumbled stream of consciousness, sales, and pseudo science.

Riding around farm today finishing fencing, it all makes sense what is said in the video.

I will draw up a management plan and order some tools.

First step is to establish where the soil is at.

I get bad cracking in summer and crickets are horrendous, i will have to spray this week like it or not.

When it comes to cracking and dry conditions ground cover is your first defence, cycle as much organic matter and introduce any biology you can, johnson su is a good source but many other resources are available to you.

To measure you could use a Soil Food Web certified lab, there are 7 in Oz.

I would imagine it’s impossible to get a correct true reading especially with fungus. There isn’t the technology available at least at a reasonable cost to sample for all the know fungi and bacteria. Traditional cultures techniques need a lot of time and different media. All a load of rubbish me thinks.

It's the fungal to bacterial biomass ratio being measured, different plants preferring different ratios, by microscope not culture.

Any how are they measuring that? Plus a simple ratio to does not take into account the different species of each which I would imagine is just as important if not more.

Measuring is done by counting the bacterial & fungal biomass in samples with the aid of a microscope.

Species ID requires serious funding which is only really done at research level AFAIK, it's not viable financially.

Best not to know.

Have you made your reactor yet? Any tips? I'm just thinking of doing one.
