The Flu jab

Away from the OP but yesterday did I hear right on the news (BHS at 9am) that UK is to 'dump' 800,000 covid doses as pass use by date of end August. Or was this a malicious rumour. If so why was this not sent to more deserving folk in poor countries. As to flu jab not bothered in previous years, even last Autumn. Am well in the age group though. Might get it for first time this year.
What do you mean 'age group'? As with Covid pretty much anyone can/should have the Flu vaccine.
Or am I missing something?

Never had flu yet

There was widespread flu over the millenium. I had that (although no one else in the family did 🤷‍♂️) - the most ill i have ever been by miles.
Actually, it’s one of my pet hates... no one seems able to say they have a cold anymore, it’s always “a touch of flu”. NO, it’s a cold, there’s no such thing as “a touch of flu”

That's one of the big differences between flu and Covid, as I see it. The transmission of flu isn't as easy, hence a much smaller R number and minimal risk of it swamping the health service.
Really? Hospitals regularly come under extreme pressure in a bad flu year don't they?
Not as bad as Covid but like Covid getting vaccinated helps.

In a bad year, yes. But cancelling operations across the whole country, lockdowns ? Covid has taken it to an all new level.

R for a bad flu is under 1.7, with no countermeasures. R for Covid was 3.5-4, back in March 2020. For reference, measles can be comfortably double digit.

Yes Covid is worse than flu but if you have a Covid jab - and you should - there's no reason to not get the flu jab too.

So the missus is having a few piano tuition students in the house again.
One girl came in and coughed... "It's okay, I've had a negative covid test and I only have a sore throat".
Well missy. We don't want your coughs, colds, sore throats, convids or anything else.
Back on zoom for you.
Bloddy people. She should of called and asked for a zoom lesson in the first place.
