I used to think ,that german made tools, cars, farm machinery, tractors etc was the crem ala crem, when i left school, i built up a collection of german socket, spanners, etc but now and reading the latest classic tractor magazine and reading the sorry saga of the claas tractor with just over 1000 hours thats had to be split twice and seen other horror stories of new mercedes i dont believe it anymore ? anyone care to comment the good the bad and the downright ugley ?

Claas tractors are not made at the Massey Ferguson (AGCO) factory at Beauvais, but at the former Renault factory at Le Mans, a completely different facility that has nothing to do with AGCO. However, AGCO and Claas share the ownership of a transmission factory at Beauvais, an arrangement which has roots back in when what is now the Claas tractor business was Renault's. Claas Arion and Axion tractors are made at Le Mans, but the Xerion is made in Germany, at Harsewinkel where the combines are built.

Yes that's our tractor.

I've kept all comments factual as opposed to subjective comment.

What has happened, has happened.

Where it's been good I've said so, when it hasn't, I've also told it as it is.

Having been on this forum a while there is a thread about our initial purchase and subsequent yearly reviews starting, I think, in 2014?

I'll link to the thread.

Err, the Claas is almost 100% French unless it had the CVT transmission.
Apart from which I have never swallowed the 'German engineering' propaganda. Confirmed by ownership of very many cars and machinery over the years that were mostly no better than average. The best built car I ever owned was the 2004 Range Rover. Completely faultless from day 1. Not even the Land Cruiser matched that by a long way.

Yes indeed and they mostly have French built John Deere engines which come from Saran.
BMW X5 is made in the USA
Audi Q7, including the V6 engines, are made in Slovakia or Slovenia or nearby with Japanese transmissions on diesel versions.
And so on.
John Deere in the popular sizes are assembled in Germany but the transmissions are made in the USA I believe and the engines are certainly French made.
New Hollands are assembled in the UK but the major components come as part assemblies from Belgium and Italy mostly, including the engines, transmissions and axles.

Days of how things are made are gone, it's how it's designed and designed for what use. Much hard to make a good design bad than a bad design good

They’re all multinationals built from a supply chain that usually wraps around the world, sourcing major components and ancillary stuff from China, India, Brazil and countless other places.

Made on Earth would be a more accurate description.

As it says on juice cartons "Made in the UK using fruit from various countries".

Cracking traceability!
