Having a meeting in a corner at the local beefeater. Serving girl comes and takes the teas and coffee order. “I’m afraid the hot water machine is broken, so we’re waiting on the kettle” I asked if ‘hot water machine’ was not the very definition of a kettle. She just looked confused.

Had to smile just now....,

Went down the sheep, our land is right in the shadow of Kenilworth Castle ruins. On occasional bank holidays there is a battle re-enactment going on and they were all there this morning practicing. Knights, foot soldiers, cavalry, cannon fodder, the lot, all going on 100 yds from where we are.

They’re all shouting and bawling and banging swords on shields as the horses charge towards them, hell of a noise and then, just as it’s dying down a bit somebody pipes up with “flipping heck, you stood on my toe just then”!

Over in the corner there’s a load more caffuffle with swords clanging, gruesome shouts from fake decapitations and two blokes stood leaning on axes talking about their choice of paint colour for the lounge.

Some bloke gets a fake stab to the chest and flops to the ground, only to be told he’s in the way, so up he gets, trots 20 yds and lies down again!

Oh yeah, we were wed in a local church where the last wedding there was in the 50s. Loads of villagers were curious and turned out outside the church and threw confetti. Pouring with rain when we went in and the service started, then a roof light bulb burst and shed shattered grass over the congregation. At that point the sun came out and shone through a stained glass window all over the congregation, and it was a lovely summer day after that. An omen, possibly? Well we're still crazy, after all these years. Always said the marriage is more important than the wedding.

When we turned up at the church for our wedding, the north sidewall had been demolished and replaced with a blue plastic builders sheet, luckily for early November it was a nice warm and sunny day !

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.

This webinar will be...
