This is the rubbish they teach in college today rather than agriculture and science

Climate disruptors of the future will be trained by a new degree course, a college has said.
Black Mountains College in Talgarth, Powys, has launched a BA in sustainable futures.
It teamed up with Cardiff Metropolitan University, the Brecon Beacons National Park and industry partners.
The college also claimed it was the world's first dedicated entirely to climate action, responding to "the climate and ecological emergency".
The course will be partly classroom based, but will include placements in industry and teaching outdoors on the college's farm campus.
It also incorporates the natural landscape, the senses and the arts - students are encouraged to immerse themselves in nature - feeling, listening, even tasting the world around them. The idea is to reinforce the knowledge they learn and forge a deep connection with the world around them.
CEO Ben Rawlance said the college was founded on the ethos that climate change is not only a scientific problem, but "a problem of human behaviour, of values, of systems, of politics and economics".

Mr Rawlance said the world of work was already changing, with corporations employing sustainability and climate officers, and this course was about "giving students the tools to imagine a different future".
"These young people are going to be highly valued by industry because they're going to have that holistic world view," he added.
"They're going to understand how change happens and be schooled in theories of organisational change."
Those skills include critical thinking, creativity, communication, collaboration and compassion.

One of the industry partners is consultancy firm Accenture, which employs 750,000 people worldwide.
Chief responsibility officer Peter Lacy said there was "insatiable" demand for expertise in the fields of sustainability and systems change.
"[Demand] is going to increase exponentially for the kind of disruptors that can bring new thinking, new solutions to problems."

Another pointless degree that will end with no real proper job opportunities.
Was having this discussion with someone this morning, his opinion was that the only people who needed to do a university course were doctors, vets, teachers, solicitors and possibly accountants. Any other degrees were pointless according to him🤔

It totally devalues degrees and educational qualifications generally. Yes, I agree that this is a totally useless course but it is on target to achieve £2 million in funding. Another almost criminally useless waste of a young person’s time and talent like so many other hippy courses these days that churn out young adults with high expectations but useless degrees that will get the vast majority absolutely nowhere in terms of career prospects and for which most employers will laugh out loud at their ‘qualification’.

And yet…. They claim that there is “insatiable demand” for such expertise. Yes there probably will be for a small handful who have the right contacts, just to further live off the back of, and to tell you and me what we can’t do.

"They're going to understand how change happens and be schooled in theories of organisational change.” ""[Demand] is going to increase exponentially for the kind of disruptors"

These are worrying part. They are to be taught to be “disruptors” and "schooled in theories of organisational change”.

This is just extreme left wing claptrap. Communist bulls**t that persuades young minds that it is better to die of cold, hunger and poverty for the sake of their principles and some arrogant nonsense propaganda that persuades them that they can mould the world into some Disneyland interpretation of heaven on the Earth that they are saving from the evil industrial polluters that exploit the common worker.

Not that this lot of ‘graduates’ are ever likely to do any grafting as ‘workers’. They will have higher expectations than that.

My dear Yin. Add to that list Chemical Engineers (I think they have the highest graduate starting salary), Mechanical Engineers, Electrical Engineers. I will stop now but there is a longer list. But I hate to disabuse you and your mates prejudices as they provide me much sport and amusement on this forum. Best wishes,

Indeed! My cousin is a chemical engineer, as is her husband, I understand they’re doing rather well!

Would I be right in saying that the students would have to pay around £9,500 a year in tuition fees?

It's a pretty small niche in the 'Venn diagram' of students who want to study fashionable 'environmental matters, but find themselves having to learn about the holistic benefits of 'immersive modern dance'. Having to spend several years of your life in the company of eccentric daydreaming hippies sounds like hell on earth. I don't know if the graduates deserve a degree or life long medication, but good luck to them.

He was actually the window cleaner so not really a mate😄
His list wasn't exhaustive as you've pointed out but a large number of degrees are to a degree pointless and the students end up working in a job that has no relevance to what they studied.
It's become as much about funding as educating and money only comes by getting bums on seats.

They'll have a rude awakening, normally after a couple of months saying "do you want fries with that?" in the only job that an employer will offer them after graduation. That's the point when they start to realise that they've been bullsh1tted by the powers-that-be that a degree, any degree, is worth it's weight in gold.

Uni will get £9k for each bum on a seat. If they can construct the degree so that the students are sitting in the same lectures as other courses the uni is quids in. It’s nothing to do with saving the environment it’s a money making exercise.

when I worked in FE, I soon realised, we didn't run courses because we thought there was a need for them in industry, rather we ran courses that we thought there would be students to fill it, no worries at all about what they would do after.

While I understand the sentiment, I like to think the Queensferry Crossing I'll be driving over on my way home tonight was designed by someone with some higher education behind them. :nailbiting:

Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths ought to be front and centre.

Reading the CVs there reminds me of the Scotland the What sketch with the retired professor and the builder.

”I’ve spent 30 years in higher education”

”oh, so you’ve never worked?”
