Tight ewes

On lambing at the moment having a fair few ewes very tight and a few ring wombs. Is this a mineral deficiency did I once hear? All tight ones are bought and not bolus Ed like our own bred ewes.

I’ve seen us wait half a day. The ewe is more important to us than the lambs as we seem to always have plenty of pets about but if you damage the ewe she may not breed again or even snuff it. Patience is the word for ringwomb.
A lot will say get rid but we always record them and find they rarely suffer from it twice for some reason.

Was told by a vet once to give ewes with ring womb a shot of calcium.
Had a 3 or 4 cropper (home bred) here with ring womb and a stinking dead lamb inside yesterday morning.

Normally I can manage to open ring womb 'manually' but this was like a one inch, solid ring of leather.

Gave her a dose of calcium and some time. At 2am she was trying to push and still ringed up like a rock. I managed to open her up a touch, got covered in 'stinking juice', used 2 bottles of lube and got nowhere.

At 3am she had an injection of lead :(

About 10pm one night I had a ewe with blood on tail and restless in my outside lambers, it had been like that since mid afternoon, i got her in and put her in a pen and investigated, ringwomb, it was when we were very busy lambing and i was getting tired, i thought what do i do now, i remembered what id seen on forum, gave her a jab of calcium, thought I'd give her a hour to open a bit so went in for my supper, fell asleep in chair, woke up about 3am and remembered about ewe, rushed outside and found the ewe with 2 lambs suckling!

where is everyone getting their calcium from? Our lambing supplies order came back with none and we were told they had stopped making it, which seems crazy

Blue top Claciject is gone...

But you can still get Red top. (it's twice the strength, so use half as much... it is also Calcium only - has no Glucose like Blue top)

had a ringwomb other night, calcium an waited a few hours, laid correctly but one leg slight back. Just managed to slip a rope up with one finger and bring leg forward. She was pushing which helped. Lambs dead but ewe doing ok with another lamb on. I like ropes for difficult ones.

Me too, always carry one in my top pocket. Especially now when we are lambing hoggs?

Just lambed one a few minutes ago bought a bought ewe had twin lamb when she arrived. Had 2/3 doses of the red top until she came around. How she’s not spat the lambs out I have no idea.

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.
