Time keeping

Find my friends on iPhone or share live location on What's App, you will be able to see where they are at what time.

If nothing else the fact that you are asking will know that you are on to them.
Why do that, just get a time clock. Don't make smart phone ownership a condition of employment.
Will the boss have their location available to employees? ;)

The Agricultural Matters section on here tells us that phones are a luxury.

Know of a farm that uses thumb print recognition for their staff to click on and off rather than a basic time clock. Stops others signing in on someone’s behalf

Poor do if it comes to that tbh
What a load of rubbish. Much more clean and professional to have a clocking in machine. If staff are late going home they get paid for all the extra time instead of bits of paper rounded up or down to the nearest half an hour.
It’s clear and transparent for both parties. Can’t recommend the finger print machines enough.

We don't have a clock on/off machine as we trust our staff to be honest with their timekeeping & overtime.
They let us know if there is a problem and they will be late and they set out their OT hours by text on a Friday morning (which we would have a fair idea of in any case)

It's a two way street and oddly, we never have a problem attracting staff

Think clock in could be just as handy a tool for employees as it is employers no time sheets needing to be kept and getting paid for exactly what you do. Can be hard to get hours etc out of employees sometimes unless they keep a diary or time sheet of some kind but I know here a couple just go off what the rota says and that’s the hours they give me. Can see how it would be beneficial for both sides

Yeah I can see the benefits too but all our full times are on salary and the casuals are on piece work at a set rate.

So long as the FTs don't take the p!ss, it is surprising how peeps will go the extra mile for you if you're not on their backs all the time

Chasing people for their time is a recipe for disaster. Always find being reasonable and keeping jobs in a daily/weekly routine is best. Along as the jobs done I'm happy. It's when they no show or don't do jobs/ don't do jobs properly that's the problem.

100% agree, no arguments with a time clock.
From the employer side just make sure you have an official start time to stop people coming in early, clocking in and doing bugger all until start time.

You should probably still have hours records to prove you are always paying above minimum wage.

I'm probably not a great person to employ, when I was working I had my own stock to see to first, so often I got held up because of a knocked off drinker or a sick animal or a smashed up gate. I was often late starting in the mornings, much to the offices displeasure, but I always stayed until the work was finished. Even it was 4 the next morning. I often got the call in the morning, are you not up yet, when in fact I had been prowling about all morning doing my own work so that I could go do theirs?

Hi all,
Does anyone know of or use a clocking in app? We have a couple of members of staff that are not very good at time keeping and it's always hard to see what time they arrive as I'm usually in the parlour or out feeding some cattle.
Thought an app would help encourage them to arrive on time?
Any thoughts much appreciated
Thanks
With a shortage of farm labour and plenty of jobs available it might encourage them to resign! Main thing is if the work is being done and not 5 or 10 mins being shaved off the day imo

Apps will, other half has one for her work, GPS tracker knows when she is at places of work
Mrs KP has a similar thing on her phone, it allows her to automatically sign in or out when she is on farms to satisfy their H&S policy (although she still uses a gate tag to get into her base) However this phone is a work phone, supplied and paid for by her employer.
Do the jobs they are allocated get done to a high standard within the time they are working or is stuff getting left for the next day - ‘cos if the work is getting done I would let them get on with it and not worry unless others are expressing resentfulness.
It's fine doing that if they are by themselves, and their work doesn't affect anyone else but in a team such as a dairy farm doing routine jobs, the start time should be the start time.
