Too hot for liquid N?

I am putting 300ltrs 30N +11S on 1-3 leaf wheat in the hope we get some rain tonight (it looks less likely every time I check the forecast...) They are now talking of it getting to 18C today, and there is not a cloud in the sky. Pictured is one of the thinner patches and one of the better but you will get the idea. Crack on or draw stumps??

Imo too hot and sunny today now. well here in Essex anyway. 10degrees and cloudy tomorrow will be better.

As above. Tomorrow would be better . Early as possible while there’s a dew as well.
If you do get any rain today then crack on whilst it’s raining or soon afterwards.

We’ve just stopped doing a lower dose on osr that’s worth spending on due to hot sunshine. The forecast is for cooler weather from tomorrow. Might have another look this evening when the heat has gone from the sun.

Packed up at 10:15 having got 20 cube on. Was too hot and bright. The weather map shows thunderstorms going around but none here yet. Will have a go later or in the morning.

No rain forecast here for the foreseeable future. Starting to wonder if I hold off on the final N on wheat? Liquid ought to be available to the plant sooner and some may be absorbed by the leaves it has scorched on the way down???

Fertilizer? Liquid or solid cannot really do anything without rain. We have incorporated n into spring barley seedbeds but won’t do any top dressing until there’s rain on the radar. Pointless.
Cant agree with that . put liquid N on wheat two weeks ago and greened up in 3 days. No rain here for 3 wks. I think a bit overnight dampness is all liquid needs.

In fairness to ratchet spanner the surface of the soil under a wheat canopy would have been damper a fortnight ago in this parish! Today the ground is very dry on the surface here, ime liquid doesn’t really get into the crop today’s conditions. Will still be there if it does rain though.

I was on the understanding not to apply on a dew as it would stick to the leaf, wait for dry leaf then liquid will run off the leaf, another difficult year not to scorch, spring barley to do before emergence but it’s poking through, would you still go?

Not in hot sunny windy weather. The odds of hitting such a small target are low but when you did you would hit a big % of a very delicate leaf. Half of mine went on spring crops pre drilling and the other half pre emergence.

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.

This webinar will be...
