I think it’s very divisive we can blame the nfu, bfu or who the hell we want but looking at the protests in Europe and Wales, they are against their collective governments
England for example has hill farms saying sfi is useless and arable farms saying that it’s fantastic
Others rightly say , what are we protesting about .
One thing I will say is, we need to forget the keeping the public onside.
Those I speak to are on side and see what farming is up against, the folk in cities etc don’t give a shite
Just my thoughts

I reckon England is one of the better countries to farm in just now.

This week I sold store cattle at £1360, hoggs at £160. SFI looks relatively sensible and workable. Westminster isn’t trying to take 20% of the farm like the Welsh are, closing down livestock farms like the Dutch or taking away red diesel like the Germans.
I don’t have any reason to protest.

Never say never but as a mostly livestock farmer it’s ok at the moment.

The English farmers are getting a grant to plant flowers that pays better than First wheat, they’re not stupid enough to rock the boat.

Meanwhile in N Ireland after 2 years of no government we get some townie with a bow tie as our ag minister…..

We have currently the most expensive beef and lamb prices in the world. Grass is greener than usual for March. Cereal prices favour livestock. In Scotland the government has said 70% of support will still be direct, obviously with conditions, but that is always the case with taxpayers money. How long that will last still remains but at worst it will go down SFI route and I will sow herbal leys for £350/ha and still have livestock.
I'll lend you the specs with the rose-tint later.

With the upcoming ammonia framework, the public opinion on lough neagh putting the nitrates derogation at risk id say the present moment is some of the most worrying times for the Northern Irish livestock sector. From what I’m hearing any future development is near impossible, the 500m2 permitted development is finished. New pig, poultry and dairy building even replacement is supposedly 1/500 for acceptance.

Its probably because we all realise that if we tried protesting like the Europeans the police would haul us out of our tractors, they would be impounded and then vosa and the court system would descend and start handing out massive fines.
